Agree to disagree I guess. I just feel he was often the scapegoat because people didn't like his personality. I like fullbacks who don't always dive in and give away fouls.

Simpson wasn't as bad as people made out but he certainly wasn't what I'd call good. He was just a bang average player.

I stand by these things, are you saying he was weak or unfit? Physically he was in good condition and he used to put in an ok amount of tackles and could force a winger down the byeline. He's nowhere near great but the way some of you talk he was terrible/the weakest player in a team that often contained the ilk of Shola, Williamson, Raylor, Saylor, Guthrie etc etc

He never put in any tackles and rarely stopped crosses. All he did was run away from the attacker and invite balls into the box. He was an absolute shambles defensively and his attacking play was embarrassing. Comfortably one of our worst players when he was with us, hence why we let him run down his contract and leave for nothing which was precisely what he was worth

I'll agree with later posts that he reflects an average footballer, but this comment was bang on. He was one of the most passive defenders I've ever watched play. I don't know if he was afraid of getting beaten by an attacker, or if he just felt it was better tactically to collapse into the box, but he was almost unwilling to attempt a tackle, and so often fell back onto the goal line to prepare for a block rather than mark his man.
