Debuchy part-exchange with Arsenal, who would you take?

Post by Cal »

The latest in the Debuchy to Arsenal saga is that they may be offering squad player(s) and cash, instead of the previously rumoured £12m lump sum.

London sources say the Gunners could offer squad players as part of a deal for Toon star Mathieu Debuchy

Newcastle United could be offered World Cup star Joel Campbell as part of the deal which takes Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal.

The Costa Rica international is likely to be loaned out this summer but Arsenal sources say that he could be inserted into any potential package for the French full-back.

The 22-year-old has also interested West Ham, Everton and Southampton this summer. The Gunners may also involve including Carl Jenkinson in the deal but it remains to be seen whether Newcastle demand a cash only deal.

Debuchy is now on holiday after the World Cup but there is likely to be progress on the deal this week.
So if this deal was to go ahead, who would you like to see come from Arsenal as part of the deal?

Wouldn't mind that Ozil guy <roll>
But seriously, if this was to happen I reckon it would be Jenkinson not that I'd be particularly happy with that.

Since we're always in need of a new left-back, Gibbs and/or Monreal... <whistle>

Or an old FM classic wonderkid in Yaya Sanogo to fill the gap left by Shola. <awe>

Jenkinson part-ex only if he's not rated at very expensive. At least it is someone and saves us a signing. He's not terrible, better than MYM there

Loan to sweeten the deal with either him or Campbell would be canny

We'll probably end up with Diaby.

Campbell + Gnabry + Jenkinson and they can have Debuchy for just those 3 and no cash.

Jenkinson and one of Joel Campbell, Serge Gnabry, Ryo Miyaichi and I'd be happy enough with about 5m in cash as well.

I personally don't see the sense in player exchange. Imagine you're a player being used as a makeweight in a deal like that; it's not going to fill you with confidence or desire to play for the team is it?

I'd only take Campbell, and it has to be a permanent.

Players get traded in other sports all the time - it doesn't wreck their confidence. If anything, it should provide confidence that the club you're going to would prefer you over money to buy someone else.

Its not like they are forced into it, they can always turn the other club down.

Exactly. Plus if the player they're bringing in is in your position, you know you're another peg down the depth chart too.

I'd stop supporting us if we sign Jenkinson.
