haha could be- I know he had McLeish & Advocaat at Rangers. Obviously Pards & Hughton at us, don't know who at Schalke, Hughton & Clark at Birmingham, and Olsen at Denmark. Hardly stand outs I suppose

Dick Advocaat's probably the most high profile, or Alex McLeish. Pardew was the best he had here (Kinnear, Hughton and Shearer being the others).

Shola hasn't scored in a derby in years. Shola in general has hardly scored in years. His record against them is what I would expect of any decent striker who's played that many matches against one team, and he only gets so much acclaim for it because he's scored so few against the rest of the league in his career. I'm bored of this urban legend about him.

He hasn't started the last two, the one before he was subbed off first half because we were 1-0 up and Tiote got sent off. He scored against them the season before last, the season before he scored two and got an assist, the season before we were in the Championship, but the season before that he scored in both matches. It's not an urban legend at all, only Jackie Milburn has scored more goals for us in the Derby.

It's easier to contend for a record like that when you play your entire career at the club and have 300+ appearances.
And the fact he hasn't started the past 2, and was taken off early in the one previous supports the fact he isn't good enough. I just get annoyed with Pardew or others wheeling out the praise for Shola based on performances from years past in the hopes of building up his confidence and producing a performance exceeding his ability.

Just catching up on the posts on here - would just like to say that people betting on Sunderland to win obviously favour money over their team and are clearly not true aficionados of the club. Supporting a football team requires loyalty and even if you fear a bad result you have to believe that anything can happen and hope your faith will be rewarded. Betting against your team just makes you look stupid - money means nothing over loyalty.

I wouldn't be all together upset by that line-up. I would prefer Gouf and Cisse but I presume they are both still out. Of course Shola is generally useless but he seems to come alive during the derby and hopefully he or Sammy could get a goal which would be marvellous!

He doesn't really have a choice what with injuries, suspensions and Cabaye being sold. The only options are MYM and De Jong, and it's pretty easy to predict what Pardew will do. Personally for the derby I'd play the same, Ameobi and Taylor get the derby and it would be too much of a baptism of fire for De Jong.

I'd put De jong in, even if he isn't match fit compared to Shola he probably is. Not sure if I'd drop Sammy and go 4-4-2 or Shola and keep the same formation. Don't get me wrong I love Shola but Shola can't play in a lone striker role, as a target man in a 4-4-2 yes but as a lone strike its a cause for concern.
