International friendly night, England and others play

Post by TJR »

England play Denmark at Wembley tonight. Roy has said the game will be full of substitutions as he wants to give those he needs to see play a chance to impress in an England shirt before he decided if they are going to Brazil.

It on ITV so we have to put up with Chiles, Tyldesley, Townsend and Hoddle. Unfortunately Roy Keane isn't on, him and Dixon are the only decent part of ITV's coverage but he's the Irish coach.

England line up is: Hart; Johnson, Cahill, Smalling, Cole; Gerrard, Henderson; Sterling, Rooney, Wilshere; Sturridge.

Games of interest to NUFC:

Shola Ameobi (Nigeria)
v Mexico (Atlanta, USA)

Papiss Cisse (Senegal)
v Mali (Paris)

Mathieu Debuchy, Loic Remy & Moussa Sissoko (France)
v Netherlands (Paris)

Shane Ferguson (Northern Ireland)
v Cyprus (Nicosia)

Curtis Good (Australia)
v Ecuador (Millwall)

Cheick Tiote (Ivory Coast)
v Belgium (Brussels)

Cole shouldn't be playing <disgrace> perfect opportunity to give Shaw a run out.

Roy has said both will feature tonight. Roy is using this as an opportunity for the both to impress as he's said Baines will go to Brazil (unless he gets injured) and only one of Shaw and Cole will go.

I agree though, Shaw should play the full game. Cole shouldn't be in the squad, he's past it and a colossal cronut. Therefore Shaw and Baines should go to the world cup.

Nice front 6 although I'd have got Lallana in for Sterling maybe although I guess Roy is trying to replicate Liverpool's front 6. Hopefully Wilshere and Rooney have big games and show it's a style and formation that can work.

Why should a friendly be used as a 'chance to impress' in this scenario though? Fair enough if you have two in-form players battling it out for one place but Cole has been on the bench all year whilst Shaw has impressed almost every week. Cole shouldn't even be in the squad.

Cole has been an ever-present in the England side for a good 10-12 years now and probably been England's best competition player, hence his squad and probable WC inclusion.

He's probably the best England have isn't he? Or would you rather Walker? Can't think of another English rb who's of a decent standard. Who plays there for 21s?

Calum Chambers is a good right back.

Sam Byram will probably be in the squad in a few years time and there's always Nathaniel Clyne
