The Kinks or The Rolling Stones

Post by GirondinGeordie »

I personally prefer The Kinks to The Rolling Stones, purely based on the fact that "Lola VS Powerman and the Moneygoround" is one of my favorite albums of all time. This said both have their own brilliant moments, and I'm constantly debating with my friends on the topic of who is "the best".

Why do you like the one more than the other? What is their greatest song?

PS: I haven't brought up The Beatles as they're obviously in a league of their own.

Yeah the northern lge div 2 <puke>

As an alternative to those bands who imo have had their moments of brilliance i'd like to mention a band that never seems to get any credit for their contribution to the 60's music scene ... The Animals ;)

Bit of a Hobson's Choice this one, rather like would you like to have your balls crushed in a vice or cut off with a blunt rusty knife.

I eventually settled on The Kinks, but to be honest I've always thought they were both horribly overrated and pretty crap.

Edit: oh yeah favourite song would be Should I Stay or Should I Go Now? ... the answer to which would be no and yes f*** off!

The Animals were brilliant! Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood a cracking tune. I'll be forever greatful for their cover of Bring It On Home To Me as well <awe>

Not really a fan of either. If I had to pick one it would be The Kinks <erk>

I like more songs from The Kinks than I do The Rolling Stones. So The Kinks.

Out of those two the Kinks by miles but the best band of that era were Black Sabbath.

In an era already with the aforementioned Kinks and Stones, as well as The Jimi Hendrix Experience and Led Zeppelin, that is an insane statement. Sabbath were good, perhaps revolutionary, but can you really say they hold a candle to any of these bands other than maybe the Kinks?

It has to be The Stones for me.

My mum used to play their music all the time when I was growing up so I have a lot of very fond memories of my mum that have The Stones as a sort of background music.

Best song for me is between 19th Nervous Breakdown or Gimme Shelter.

Now I've seen The Rolling Stones live, I'd say I prefer them by a considerable distance. They are sensational.

But you can't have seen The Kinks live so how is that a fair comparison?

I can only judge on what I've seen. Seeing The Rolling Stones live meant I'd heard a lot more of their songs than I had previously and I listened to a lot more of them. I like The Kinks, but I still prefer The Rolling Stones.

11 months on I prefer The Rolling Stones after giving them more of a listen and I like quite a few of their songs. The Kinks are still decent too.

I get a bit bored of both to be honest but I'd have to say Stones.

The Kinks, definitely the Kinks.

Not to knock the Stones, I even like their drugged out wackiness of the mid 80's.
