Southampton have put £10m on the table apparently.

Now let's wait for us to pontificate, offer a lower amount, piss off player and club, and then lose the race....

If we'd pay £12m for Cabaye, I'd be shocked if we didn't pay around that for a proven English striker.

It doesn't matter either way; if Southampton and West Ham are both in for him, then I don't fancy our chances even if we met the fee

Couple of girls I work with are going to his wedding in a week or so. I'll ask them to get the inside scoop, no doubt that's exactly what he wants to talk about on his wedding day.

If anyone had come up to me on my wedding day and tried to talk about work, I'd have kindly asked them to f*** right off. I'd imagine Austin will have a similar outlook.

That will almost certainly not go down well.

Get them to say they're West Ham fans meaning he then resents West Ham and signs for us.

Why don't they just get him 3 presents; one wrapped in black and white, one in blue and maroon, and one in red and white and ask him which one he wants ;-)

<laugh> I'm obviously not going to get them to ask. One of them is married to his fiancee's brother so I doubt she really wants to piss him off.

As a side note, another guy from work is friends with a guy who owns a racehorse with Austin (tenuous) and he said back in January he wants to stay in London and would only move to us for big money. Granted that was 6 months ago so things could have changed.

So he's definitely out then.

I hate our owners sometimes but there is nothing they can do about the location of the club. I also wouldn't want to go back to the days of overpaying players to compensate for this.

Well no, not necessarily. Like I said that was 6 months ago when the likes of Liverpool and Spurs had shown interest. Plus it may not even be true, I mean the guy has no reason to lie but I couldn't guarantee 100% it's genuine.

Joey Barton is going to the wedding I could get them to ask him back? Or get them to tap up Clint Hill <divax>

I'd rather have f***ing Jimmy Hill.

Is Austin's transfer to Newcastle is still done or now it's undone?

Surely if signing Austin is as quick and easy as some people make out then he would have been signed up by Chelsea, West Ham, Southampton, Liverpool or any other rumoured club by now. <scratch>

Can get 4/1 to West Ham or 20/1 to Southampton if anyone is 100% defeated that he's not coming here.
