Portland Timbers vs Newcastle United
Re: Portland Timbers vs Newcastle United
To anyone who watched the game, is it worth catching up on?

Like several have said, there was not much to learn from that game. We had 11 bodies on the pitch but so many players out of position that it was nothing more than a fitness exercise.
The highlights should give you the opportunity to see the few things worth seeing, which would basically be the great contributions by Aarons.

Watching Steve's interview on NUFC TV after the game you can tell he was not happy about this trip. Too much travel, in too short a period of time. His expression when talking about playing Sheff Utd on Sunday, after two solid days of travelling home said it all as well really.

Lads, preseason results literally do not matter. Performances don't even matter, individual or as a team. It's purely about the team playing together, getting the new and inexperienced players mixing with the regulars and one another.
It's also about fitness. We didn't look match fit because we aren't yet. Hence, play matches to improve our match fitness. Reading into a friendly, especially one like this with so much travelling around it, is absolutely pointless.
No result matters until the first match of the season.

Since when does it take 2 days to travel home from the USA?The Deluded Pablo Diego Jose Francisco wrote:Piss poor organisation by the club (yet again...)nufc1991 wrote:Watching Steve's interview on NUFC TV after the game you can tell he was not happy about this trip. One of the benefits of this kind of trip is team bonding which we definitely needed after last season. Additionally, players are building their fitness against opposition that are already well into their season (or literally about to start their season in the case of Atlas). The defence we put out yesterday shows results on these kind of tours are a bonus. The only friendly worth taking notice of will be v Monchengladbach.

I think it's a pretty hefty trip to get from Portland to Newcastle.Don't imagine it being just one flight. He's probably factoring in jet-lag, day off after all the travelling to. It's probably been good for the atmosphere and team spirit within the group. But you can see he would've done it differently. He doesn't want to criticise the club but he wouldn't have done it this way.
