Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
Read a bit more on Mbemba and I'm getting excited. Similar stature to Colocinni at 5 foot 11 but complete with a physical presence complete with technical ability, been touted to being the next Kompany. Can play right back and DM, scored 6 in 66 so actually carries a goal threat similar to lord Shola.
If we get him we would likely would need to get rid of Williamson because Colo and him are so far too similar, which can only be a good thing. If we buy him it would be for a starting place. Ideally we would buy him and Matip, obviously it's very difficult to buy a complete new defence but I'd rather that than buy Austin to be honest.
Mitrovic
Aarons/NEWLW De Jong Cabs
Tiote Winaldum
Haidara Matip Mbemba Janmatt
Krul
Assuming McClaren could actually get the best out of Cabella and Tiote whilst successfully integrating both center backs that team would be no slouch, surely one of the best outside the obvious top 6. Not to mention actually having a squad with Sissoko,Perez,Colback,Anita,Abeid etc etc

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
I agree with the signings section here. I would much rather we signed centre backs now than Austin.
I would rather Matip than Mbemba due to him being bigger but both would be very nice, however then I would have reservations about getting a new left back because it is a big task trying to bring in three new defenders into the starting line up without complications. On top of that Haidara has impressed me recently so if we keep him fit he could do a good job.
I would then look at signing a striker/winger, a player like Aubameyang (obviously not him) that can fill in both roles. If Aarons didn't have obvious injury problems I wouldn't class LW as a position of weakness, Aarons has bags of ability. I just think that now we (seemingly) have Mitrovic, Austin is far too similar.

Yeah I've not seen much of Mitrovic but from what I've heard he's a very similar player to Austin. Obviously signing both would be great in terms of the ambition it shows but I'd rather the money was spent elsewhere.
Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
I just want a top centre back.
Not a promising one who could become a brilliant player within a couple of years. A relatively experienced player who within a few weeks could be one of the first names on the team sheet, who possesses a commanding presence to improve our defence as a whole.
Like a slightly more s*** Vincent Kompany.

This. And a proper winger. Quick, good dribbling, puts in crosses, that sort of player. We need lots more pace in our attack. f*** knows who though.I want soutzoukakia smyrneika too wrote:I just want a top centre back.

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
I'd be chuffed if we got Mbemba, one of Matip or Abdennour and just a decent winger, somebody like Dzsudzsak or Carillo. Would ideally like to have Austin as well but I'm not sure we'd still go for him after Mitrovic.
We really need to get rid of a couple of the s**** players as well. Willo especially has to go, I think with him gone and one of Matip/Abdennour in we should be set at CB until January. Saylor and Dummett are solid enough and Colo would probably be better without having to try to be two centre backs by himself.

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
With Mitrovic practically signed, at least one new CB is a must! To be honest, and I'm probably in the same boat as the vast majority on this, i don't know a single thing about these defenders we are getting linked to so i can't say i am totally for, nor against them signing. I just feel we need a solid CB, physical presence with some pace. If we bring in two CBs then we are on our way to a very competitive team. If we do the unthinkable and go all out, defenders, winger and Austin then i will change my name to Shola
Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
Assuming Mitrovic and Mbemba go through, then I'd like either another CB (though that's unlikely as we'd then have 7 and I can't see MA paying for that), or a tricky direct winger (preferably right) who can cross a ball properly.

Surely willo will get sold? Get a million for h from a championship side given he's got one year left

Let's start a collection. Chip in a fiver each and we can take turns using him to scare herons away in the back garden.

Am I the only one who think we don't need winger and should play with a diamond formation?

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
Mitrovic appears to be the type who thrives off crosses, so that formation doesn't really provide the width.fuzzfactor wrote:Am I the only one who think we don't need winger and should play with a diamond formation?

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
I'm not sure we need another striker with Mitrovic, Cisse, Perez and Riviere. I would like another centre back and an out and out winger, then maybe one or two younger players for competition.
Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
This. Centre back and winger needed asap. Then left back.Yacob wrote:I'm not sure we need another striker with Mitrovic, Cisse, Perez and Riviere. I would like another centre back and an out and out winger, then maybe one or two younger players for competition.
I'd be more than happy to flog Riviere and buy a replacement striker though.

Seen Chelsea apparently trying to offload Cuadrado. Obviously a pipedream but if we could get him on loan

What're people's thoughts on the Nathan Ake loan rumour? And I mean whats your opinion more broadly about a loan. I'm with most who don't really care much for them, but with higher priorities elsewhere, I could probably handle a depth loan at a position like LB where we don't appear to have any options in the youth pipeline (Dummett is a CB as far as I'm concerned)

I think it's certain we'll play a 4-2-3-1 this year.

Not sure we'll throw Mbemba in at the deep end, especially if he's too similar to Colo who I think will retain his starting berth. If we sell Cisse I think we'll be in for another striker. If not I would consider a better CB than Taylor and a winger capable of operating on either side as a successful window though I still think Haidara is suspect in the short-run.

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
There are some glaring things needing sorted. Neither Colo or Will really going to move us on so definitely need CB. In addition we probably need better LB but won't happen. As for strikers, I'm not convinced about Riv or Perez. They both had masses of game time and never got decent stats. Before people wade in and say he was in a s**** team, consider this, so was Austin.

Re: Who else would you like to see brought in this window?
Currently our squad is weak, one or two injuries to first team members WILL leave us exposed.
DEF: We are in need of defenders seeing as Coloccini and Williamson have proven to be useless when it comes to actually defending. I'd bring in Lazio's Stefan de Vrij and Chancel Mbemba as he sounds like an exciting prospect from reports! Ron Vlaar would also be decent back-up but he is out with a knee injury for 4 months. Finally, I'd go all out to bring in Douglas as his height an aerial ability would provide us with something we have lacked for far too long at the back!
Get rid of our previous starting centre-backs and that leaves us with: Janmaat, de Vrij - Lascelles, Mbemba, Vlaar, Douglas - Haidara, Dummett.
MID: Our strongest position when it comes to central midfielders. Would love to see McClaren bring in Will Hughes as he is one of the most exciting british prospects out there at the moment! Other than that we need a winger who can cross the ball and cause some real damage going in to the box. We have some flair players but Mitrovic will be living off scraps if we don't add to that department.
ATT: Sorted in my opinion. Would welcome the aspect of Charlie Austin and would rather see him at the club than Cissé in all honesty but we have to prioritise defensive and winger duties. Riviere is a liability but we now have Papiss, Mitrovic, Ayoze and Armstrong who we can use in a one-up-top formation
