Is Cabella good enough?

Post by Colly »

[In response to someone putting Cabella at RAM in an ideal starting XI]

Genuinely at the point of punching myself in the face every time I see Cabella over Perez in the right attacking mid position...

Agreed. I'm all for giving players another season to adapt, but I think I saw enough in 34 games to conclude that he is simply not good enough.

Well if that's not motivation to put Cabella in, I don't know what is.

I don't dislike Cabella and still think he needs a go, but there's literally nothing in his game that Perez can't do better. And he has s*** hair.

It's more the price tag and how good we thought he was, he deserves at least another chance next season. Saying that although Perez can play RM his talents are better suited elsewhere, the starting 11 was not necessarily the best 11; merely a showcase of what the team could be.

I still don't understand why fans have suddenly turned on Cabella after 1 season under 2 incompetent managers.

He's clearly got talent, I just think too often last season he was isolated on the wing. I'd like to see him played inside alongside De Jong and behind a decent striker for a couple of games.

He was just as bad (maybe worse) as Sammy, yet Sammy gets s*** on. It's only fair Cabella is getting a bit of flack.

Yeah I think he's good enough. I'd have him in and around the starting XI, maybe not nailed on but I thought he showed enough when he had other flair players with him (basically just Perez) to be fairly optimistic that he'll settle. I think he'll definitely suit McClaren's brand of football better than the utter w*** that we were playing under Pardew and Carver. It seems like it'll be more about players with guile and skill breaking down the defence as a team rather than just smashing it up and hoping Perez will do something magical or giving it to Sissoko to run straight into the centre back with.

Perez is much better than Cabella. I'm all for keeping Cabella as a back-up due to the inevitable injuries but he shouldn't start ahead of Perez who I think can be so dangerous playing in one of the three positions behind a big striker.

If he plays like he did that time v Chelsea yeah. He was good that day.

I'd rather Perez though because Perez is the greatest thing that's ever happened to this club, although I'd much rather see him off a striker

I reckon he is, we just haven't seen it yet. All we've seen so far is hints of flair here n there, his biggest downfall is that he's weak as piss - gets shrugged off the ball far too easily.

Na his biggest downfall is pointless stepovers and tricks when standing still.

Perez should never ever play RM or RAM or RW.
His movement as a striker is just much too good to have him stuck on the wing BUT if he has to drop down to midfield it should on be on the left. He's never going to race to the by-line so having him cut in from the left onto his right boot is just much more preferable

More on topic, I'm not sure about Cabella. One of the biggest gripes I have with this forum is how quickly we right off new talent but Cabella has had a year and hasn't really done much to make me say he should stay nevermind start.

That said I think he will be much different under McClaren and hopefully more direct, he slows play down way too much imo. He's clearly a talented lad but Perez would easily start in front of him (based on last season)

One season where the entire team other than Perez, Janmaat and Colback were utter s**** and we're writing him off already.

Deserves a chance to prove himself, he is still adapting to the league after all.
