I think it's funny because you then hear from the same people about players staying at lower clubs for big wages...

"Ohh he's got no ambition" "He's just in it for the wages" "He's a selfish player and needs to be the star at the lesser club for his ego"

Well..

WHICH ONE IS IT <yikes>

If Cabaye and Remy would have snubbed PSG and Chelsea respectively you'd all <applause> because it's Newcastle but if they were at some other club you'd all yawn and say that they aren't realizing their full potential, aren't ambitious blah blah blah

Excuse me for wanting the best to stay at Newcastle. Each of these cases is different. I know it's a pipe dream but it's my pipe dream. Remy always chased the cash so that was no loss. Plenty people swallowed their pride to see him back here after he thought QPR a better wage slip/career move. Cabaye used to be worth the ticket money alone. Was very hopeful we could keep him after Arsenal interest but PSG proved he is good but not great. Now he's sniffing for regular action. As for Ba, we took a punt and he had so many loopholes/exit clauses in his contract, Arry had to tell us how cheap it was to prise him away. Now he's sniffing a return to EPL.
Surely all this proves all that glistens is not gold in terms of ambition ( but yes mega wages along the way).

Personally I wouldn't give two flying ****s about some other teams players but maybe that's just me.

Unless it was Jelle Vossen.... but I think that's more sexual now. <whistle>

Rumours today City are after Delph. It'll just be another Rodwell/Sinclair all over again. They just hoover up half decent English talent to meet their homegrown quota with no intention of playing the player, it's absurd. No way is he good enough for a team like City.

I know there's the arguement that he may feel he's genuinely good enough to hold down a first team place at Man C, but surely part of him must realise he isn't. Yes he'd treble his wages, but it'd be a massive step back in terms of his development.

Depends if he values his place in the England team and career development over wages. My issue is more with City doing this everytime a half decent English player pops up. They're even doing it with Sterling, although there is the argument he does have the potential to break into their team. It's ridiculous, they should focus on developing their own players rather than just throwing bagfuls of money at young English players so they'll jump ship. It's such a lazy approach.

Is City's academy any good though? I know they've thrown bags at money to build a massive complex and what not, but you don't really hear of any up and coming young stars there. Chelsea break football a bit as well, they have it cornered as far as buying young talent, never playing them, and selling for a profit - yet you still hear about players coming through the system there. Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Nathaniel Chalobah to name a few.

I agree that Delph can't possibly see himself good enough to play for City. He's only really broke into the England team because of a lack of options, from my point of view. And I think that could be a deal breaker in terms of a move to City. Like has been said, he won't (shouldn't) get in the England squad if he seldom plays for City. Sterling could have the quality to start for them, or at the very least get a decent amount of games. Delph does not.

I think the last two decent players City developed from their academy were Richards and Sturridge, and that's coming up ten years ago. I suppose you could argue Hart aswell but he came from Shrewsbury. Michael Johnson had potential but he enjoyed gambling and kebabs too much. We probably won't see the fruits of their new academy project coming through for another couple of seasons yet, but you'd still think they'd show more intent to bring through some of their youngsters and integrate them, rather than raiding other clubs just to have a few Englishmen on board. It's nonsense.

City under 17th and majority of there youth level are some of the best in the world.

They will reap what they have sown in the coming years.

Plenty people thought Shearer mad for coming to Newcastle when he could have his pick of clubs.

There's been more than enough examples of young players being signed up by these massive clubs, never getting a game and then leaving to a mid/lower team because they want more games.

If other players gaining interest don't see this or pay any attention to it then that's their problem. If they join because of the much better wages, then they can't moan when they don't get games, either.

Me personally, I'd rather be a star in a lower table team than a benchwarmer in a bigger one.

Not sure I get your point. Why would anyone slag off someone who stayed loyal to a club?

It happens all the time, even at our beloved Toon.

It's all about perspective.

I spent 18 months listening to fellas asking why the f*** Cabaye was still Tyneside for example, and that's just for starters.
