Re: Vieira set for talks over Newcastle head coach position
I'd take him 2000x times over Carver to be honnest. He's a born leader, it can't be worse than Carver. And the guy is a f***ing beast and likes the club (when a journalist asked him what was his favorite stadium in England, he answerered that it was SJP...).
The must would be him as assistand and Garde as head coach. That would be amazing, they're both french, strong in their area (actually don't know if we can say that in english but it sounds good lol)

Sorry for my english, I'm belgian.

Vieira would be an interesting appointment and we are at the point where we need to take a risk if we want a quality head coach and get them before they establish themselves. He is a born winner and is well thought of as City with some even wanting him to take over there until Pep becomes available. He would be a far more interesting appointment than McClaren or Carver.

Bollocks to sitting on the fence, I want this to happen 100%. It would be like a breath of fresh air in the club.
Supporting the Toon since 1972.

I'd be happy with Vieira taking over, he's been touted as Man City's next boss so he's obviously showing something over there.

I know absolutely nothing about Vieira as a coach so I'm not going to judge one way or the other but I will say that I'm glad, and slightly worried, that we're taking such a risk. I like it far better than some old dinosaur like McClaren or Redknapp who will guarantee us 10th every year.
All I know about Vieira is watching an interview on him and his philosophy of football sounds good to me. If he gets us going like Arsenal of 2003-04

Another thing that has not been mentioned is he will command the utmost respect from the players, Sissoko for example probably thinks of him as a God.
Furthermore players will want to play under Vieira, hence will he stake a bigger claim in the transfer market.
Obviously I would prefer Garde, and Vieira as a number 2 with new coaches which would be unreal.

Isn't he supposedly Sissoko's idol or something? Imagine him actually giving his all every game!

I could also see Tiote possibly coming back and actually playing like he gives a damn if Vieira gets the job.Amnesiac wrote:Isn't he supposedly Sissoko's idol or something? Imagine him actually giving his all every game!

I think it would either be a spectacular success or a spectacular failure. No middle ground.

Re: Vieira set for talks over Newcastle head coach position
There are a lot of reasons why this move could make sense, and its certainly more exciting than McClaren purely based on unknowns and potential, which as pointed out is also a negative if it doesn't work out. In the same sense, we've seen what damage a 'safe pair of hands' can do, so why the hell not take the gamble.
Wenger is no spring chicken though and there's also the Man City connection, so if he is a success, get him on a long contract and think of the compensation. <ashley>
As it is us however, I still think we inevitably end up with McClaren.

He's got a great footballing pedigree, yet no managerial experience..one of these risky appointments, if it goes right then Ashley will no doubt take all the credit, yet could be another failure. Saying that i'm willing to have Viera over Carver, i'd rather have my nan over that fool.

Pretty much this.Heisen wrote:I think it would either be a spectacular success or a spectacular failure. No middle ground.

Re: Who should replace Cardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
SSN ticker tape saying Viera odds on favourite for Newcastle job.
Ashley tells you it's raining. Do you look out the window?
Re: Vieira set for talks over Newcastle head coach position
This Vieira thing is just too random to have came out of nowhere. I think that's probably who we'll end up with.

I was also thinking, perhaps the interest in Vieira is partly because he hasn't had a senior managerial job yet and therefore hasn't really had a chance to build his own back-room staff which he'd want to bring with him, so it therefore makes it a lot easier to put Carver back into the assistant coach role.

Surely he's had a back-room staff at City?Goat wrote:I was also thinking, perhaps the interest in Vieira is partly because he hasn't had a senior managerial job yet and therefore hasn't really had a chance to build his own back-room staff which he'd want to bring with him, so it therefore makes it a lot easier to put Carver back into the assistant coach role.
It may not be much of one but it would certainly be a million times better than ours, and seeing as this would be his first senior managerial role that he'd want people that he knows and can trust.
