Re: Vieira set for talks over Newcastle head coach position
If I feel any confidence at this situation, it's only because Vieira or even McLaren can't be worst than Carver. That's it. Vieira is a huge gamble, no matter how big player he was. While McLaren secures the mediocrity. In other words, nothing will be changed, after all strong words and poses. If there's two words that can describe ashley reign at Newcastle is those two - gamble and mediocrity.
I really, really hope that we will be lucky this time, but based on how often we was lucky under ashley, I'm not optimistic at all.
PS. By optimistic, I mean not only escaping relegation. Otherwise we are the most luckiest bastards in the world... survived in three relegation battles in 4 years.

This is a good article. Gives me more confidence but maybe that's just the power of words.Don Sholeone wrote:https://www.globallcoach.com/archive/vi ... y-coaching

Re: Vieira set for talks over Newcastle head coach position
I would fully back Vieira and I would be certainly interested to see how he'd do at the helm. However, an established Premier League Club shouldn't really be giving a man with no managerial experience the top job. Such a weird move.

Why can't we just hire someone decent with managerial experience at top level?
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

I'd quite like vieira tbh, makes a change from the likes of Pardew & Carver. Why not give a younger coach a chance?

Quite excited by this news! He's a born leader, someone who the players could look up to and be inspired by. Massive gamble, but what experience did KK have when he came as manager?
Supporting the Toon since 1972.

Much rather take a risk like Swansea did than go for some experience like Bruce or McClaren.
Hope this happens and he gets to bring his own coaches in.

To be fair, Garry Monk went straight in as Swansea manager from retirement and hasn't done a bad job.
He's a natural leader, hard as nails, and he's worked under the likes of Mourinho and Wenger, so he should have picked up a tip or two and would play an appealing style of football.

As a player he was fantastic but as a manager ? Who knows. He has to be given a chance sometime , albeit it normally happens at a smaller club in the lower leagues.
He's not exactly a novice either , he's played in England and was at the top
of his game for years. Will his skills transfer to management ? Only time will tell I suppose but it's an exciting prospect. I'm more excited for the fact is not Carver!!

I'm inclined to agree, but if we're taking a gamble on an ex-player who's never managed wouldn't it be nicer to pick an ex-player vaguely familiar with the club? Les Ferdinand is in virtually an identical position to Vieira, and he's got a knighthood.Goat wrote:To be fair, Garry Monk went straight in as Swansea manager from retirement and hasn't done a bad job.

I'd be reasonably happy with Vieira, I'd like to think he could get the French players fired up and I could especially see Sissoko playing well under him.

God no, we're already a laughing stock and if we employed an ex number 9 we'd never hear the end of itColly wrote:I'm inclined to agree, but if we're taking a gamble on an ex-player who's never managed wouldn't it be nicer to pick an ex-player vaguely familiar with the club? It's going to piss me off watching people refer to him as 'Viera' all the time. That's almost enough of a reason to not want him here is

Re: Vieira set for talks over Newcastle head coach position
Vieira would be an interesting appointment. He's inexperienced but I'd rather have him over the Premier League experienced Carver, Bruce or Mclaren.
He's a leader and a winner as well. Something we are desperately lacking. He'd command more respect than someone like Carver as well after all he's achieved. He might be able to get our French players responding and therefore playing better as well.
I'd be willing to give him a chance.

Its a good insight, and nice to know he's coming from the same system as Monk and Sherwood , he seems to have his own ideas and he's said he doesn't like the the way English coaching is stick in the past, also its nice to read man city have been grooming him to be their manager one day.SeatonSluiceToon wrote:This is a good article. It does seem like he is highly regarded in the coaching circles.

As said above, the big thing for me is "as long Carver et al aren't in the set up". That counts for whoever comes in, it's why Garde wouldn't come in January. They have a terrible track record coaching

We might be able to coach a goalkeeper into how to kick a ball!Cisse's Overheating Torso wrote:As said above, the big thing for me is "as long Carver et al aren't in the set up".
