Signing #4: Remy Cabella

Post by Yacob »

Looks like this one is going to keep going. <divax>

Some of the latest quotes:

" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Laurent Nicollin (Louis' son, chief exec) on Cabella:
"No contact with them. I don't speak English. Agents have called me. I'm on holiday."
"We'll see on Monday. There's been no contact with the club."
"Rémy is a Montpellier player and I hope he'll be with us until at least June."
"There have been talks about Cabella leaving in June and there's a deal between us." (for him to leave the club in June)
"There's a deal between Cabella and club for June but the offer has to interest both player and club."

The Journal and Mail are saying today that we've made an enquiry about Remy Cabella (Montpeiller). David McCrossan (the guy who broke the Cabaye thing plus a few others of ours) reckons he's out of our price range (£14m was the quoted price in the summer). Apparently a good player though.

Also look how much he looks like a Cabaye/Debuchy lovechild.

But, as Crossan says, Nicollin always overstates the price tag before going considerably lower for the actual deal.

He's also saying that he plays a more advanced role than Cabaye and wouldn't offer the influence or defensive grittiness that he does (comparison presumably due to it being seen as a move for a Cabaye replacement), but that's actually what I feel we need; a good centre attacking mid. Cabaye rarely does well in the role, Sissoko has no idea what he's doing when put there and Ben Arfa is more influential on the wing.

If we're getting rid of Saylor, I'd be happy with Heitinga as a back up. I doubt we will though, he would probably want a big wage.

I think we could get Cabella, they are doing quite badly this season, and Montpellier put big prices on MYM, Giroud and Belhanda but then sell them cheap.

We don't need an AM with defensive capabilities because we have the real life iron man Tiote.

It's insane watching Arsenal on match of the day an seeing like 3 players in the box and players all around the box compared to us when there's literally no one; we need to play more attacking Football

Pardew is a funny bloke mind. Constantly buys creative and gifted players and still plays an incredibly tedious long-ball game. I know stats suggest we aren't doing it as often as last season but anybody who watches us can see that's what we do.

If I was a playmaker I wouldn't sign for us, put it that way. Your abilities will be diminished.

I think most of our signings of that ilk have had nothing to do with Pardew. I'd be surprised if he was behind the move for Anita, for example.

This season we've deviated massively from the long ball game. Even yesterday, we dominated possession until Debuchy got sent off.

Pardew has very little say on who comes in, he has talked about getting more British players, but we've been linked with Remy Cabella and John Heitinga.

It's meaningless possession though, mate- all we do is triangles between Tiote, Colo and Santon. Just the lack of chances frustrates me as we never really have clear-cut opportunities, it's always scrambles or a screamer. Against Arsenal and WBA we never looked like scoring all game.
Keeping the ball is never pointless , if we have possession of the football our oppposition cannot score and are tiring trying to get it back. This in turn will lead to opportunities.

I think we can get Cabella. He will look at our side and think not bad, got some decent looking countrymen in there, Remy/Cabs/Debuchy/Gouffran/Mapou/Bennie etc; he won't know our manager is an idiot

Only problem is the board not spending the money.

Doubt we'll get Cabella and we don't need another CB pushing MYM further down the pecking order.

"Newcastle’s manager would rather sell Sylvain Marveaux or Gabriel Obertan to make room for Cabella in his squad "<laugh> ......Getting £100,000 for each of them whilst having to fork out £12m+ for Cabella. I think not.

You're an idiot if you think that we would only get £100,000 for each of them. Even for Obertan we would probably be able to get £1m from a team abroad.
