Matchday thread - Magpies v Cockerels
Newcastle return to home action on Tuesday when Spurs provide the opposition at SJP for the second time in just over a month, following their 0-2 Carabao Cup loss.
It's a 8.15pm kick-off, live on Sky Sports.
United go seeking a seventh successive home win in league and cup, having beaten Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Manchester City in the Premier League, Benfica and Bilbao in the Champions League and Spurs in the Carabao Cup.
Team: United will be without Kieran Trippier, Sven Botman, Nick Pope and Will Osula. The availability of Yoane Wissa is yet to be confirmed but he took part in a training ground kickabout involving the club's U21 side on Saturday.
Coral rate this game as follows:
NUFC win 7/10
The draw 3/1
THFC win 18/5
THFC: Christian Romero will be available after serving a suspension while Kota Takai is back in training. James Maddison, Dominic Solanke, Dejan Kulusevski and Radu Dragusin are all sidelined.
Thomas Frank's side are currently level with Newcastle on points but ahead on goal difference. They have taken just one point from their last 12 - a 2-2 home draw with Manchester United - losing at home to Chelsea and Fulham and beaten at Arsenal in the North London derby.
Spurs are in better Premier League form on the road so far this season than at home, winning four, drawing one and losing one of their six away games to date.
Victories came at Manchester City (2-0), West Ham (3-0), Leeds (2-1) and Everton (3-0), a point came from a 2-2 stalemate at Brighton and their most recent away fixture ended in a 1-4 reverse at Arsenal.
Referee: Tom Bramall - first Toon posting of the season for the Sheffield-based official, last seen taking charge of our 4-0 PL home victory over Leicester City in December.
VAR: Paul Tierney

Can see the same team but Murphy and Tonali back in for Elanga and Joelinton.
We've just won away, finally showing a bit of form and great at home, Spurs are crap, we've already beaten them and they have lost their last 2.
0-1 to Spurs.

Re: Matchday thread - Magpies v Cockerels
Rafa Benitez has urged Newcastle supporters not to boo captain Jamaal Lascelles after his comments about 'nice guy' Mike Ashley.
There has been a backlash in the wake of the defender calling on fans to stop protesting against the unpopular owner inside St James' Park.
Lascelles also said that Ashley's decision to take the squad out for dinner last month was a positive step and that he had no issues with him.

Our fans appear to be less booey and more groany at certain players. Murphy, Longstaff and Burn have had some stick in recent times when they misplace a pass etc.FOGGONTHETYNE wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 2:31 pmRafa Benitez has urged Newcastle supporters not to boo captain Jamaal Lascelles after his comments about 'nice guy' Mike Ashley.

For all we know Mike Ashely might be a perfectly nice bloke in private tbf
He just comes across as a massive greedy t***...
For all the grief that Bruce got, I bet 99% of fans in the stands booing him would happily sit and have a pint with him.

This. Would be the typical Newcastle way to lose to Spurs then go on to scrap a win against Burnley and then thump Leverkusen next week.Over The Line wrote: Tue Dec 02, 2025 8:55 am Can see the same team but Murphy and Tonali back in for Elanga and Joelinton.

I think if we score early we could absolutely batter them. That said I'm going for the usual 3-1 punt.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

Expected starting line up. Surprised he left out Bruno instead of someone like Big Joe but guessing he needs a break.
Spurs 2 - 1 NUFC

Murphy with a screamer.
