I will. One more left this year. Thinking I might apply to TeachFirst next year if I don't get on to an ad grad scheme, it's ludicrously competitive. I've gotten to two interviews, with AMV and Saatchi (run by Nigella's ex-hubby!), 1200 people applied for 5 jobs in both cases. It's crazy.overseasTOON wrote:Just keep applying chap.Speedo wrote:Another f****** Grad scheme rejection

Re: The Message of Hate Thread
In 2001, at the time of the first dotcom crash I applied for a job as an HTML editor for a large company. I was told that 500 people had applied and I'd been given the interview and whilst there I had to convince the interviewer that I wouldn't be bored out of my skull (I would but I needed a job) so after several attempts I finally confided in her "You pay me. I show up. That's how it works."Speedo wrote:I will. One more left this year. Thinking I might apply to TeachFirst next year if I don't get on to an ad grad scheme, it's ludicrously competitive. Try and get onto the Aldi Graduate Scheme!Speedo wrote:Nice try. I reckon you have to be a bit off the wall in these super competitive situations.
£41k rising to £67,750 after four years.

The only problem is you have to work at Aldi.
Kindly deeds done for free!
Re: The Message of Hate Thread
Loads of people I know are applying for that. It's got great pay and conditions to make up for the fact the job is f***ing dreadful. Plus, unless you make it to the very top, I don't think you'll ever go past that £67k. If you're a head of department as a teacher you make that sort of money, more if you're a head. Or if you go private. Can I sell my morals to become a teacher at Eton?biggeordiedave wrote:Try and get onto the Aldi Graduate Scheme!

This!
I don't actually want to earn mega money. I've got mates on £40-£50k and the amount of stress and pressure they are constantly under doesn't seem worth it to me. Even when they're not at work they take work home with them.
I get paid a lot less than them, but I don't take work and stress home with me, I'm happy with that.
I think a lot of people coming up to graduation have never properly worked (other than holiday jobs etc.) - huge pay comes with lots of responsibility, accountability and stress.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?
Re: The Message of Hate Thread
I'm aware I've got a skewed perspective! But I don't think pay correlates with stress or work or anything like that. Advertising and banking, stuff like that, the first ten years, on s*** wages and ludicrously hard work, then the more senior you get, the more you get paid and the less you do!

But those first ten years separate the wheat from the chaff. The people who are in the top jobs in those industries either worked their arses off for a long time for little reward or they know someone.Speedo wrote:I'm aware I've got a skewed perspective! Oh absolutely, you're completely right! I was just pointing out that, at the point of earning the salary, some professions have the amount of work negatively associated with the level of pay!biggeordiedave wrote:But those first ten years separate the wheat from the chaff. Re: The Message of Hate Thread
The weather.
Been awful this week, fallen trees everywhere, seventy foot waves, flood, the only rail line claimed by the sea. Horrendous conditions. Although everyone in Cornwall seems to own a chain saw. Whenever a fallen tree is blocking the road they just stop, whip a chain saw out of there boot and clear the tree.
Not looking forward to travelling to London in the morning for the Chelsea game on Saturday. The rail line is knackered between Plymouth and Exeter so its a bus replacement for that part of the journey at least. Then there is planned engineering works between Exeter and Taunton so trains are diverted via Yeovil junction and Castle Cary where there is likely to be flooding and possibly another replacement bus service.
