Compton failed I'm the last series and due to his age is never a long term solution.

Root did well at 6 and opens for county so they viewed him as a long term solution.

Just s**** timing as you don't do it right at the start of the ashes
Compton's only just turned 30. It's not like he's 38 or something, he's in his prime and has got several years ahead of him yet. He scored two centuries in the series before last, a couple of bad matches isn't reason enough to drop someone. There were plenty of people calling for Cook to be dropped before the 2010 Ashes, look how he's played since then.

I said Root would have a s**** start to this series and come under pressure to keep his place, he's got 41 in three innings, if he doesn't get something in the second innings he'll probably lose his place.

Pleased to see Bell getting another century <diva>. Another player who was repeatedly dropped every time he had a bad game earlier in his career coming good.

Think it was mentioned before the game, that if a bowler has a bad game he seems to get dropped pretty quickly, and yet the batsmen who continiously let us down never get dropped.

Once again the major issue seems silly mistakes. Trott and Bairstow could easily have had centuries and Prior was far too rash, with the net result that it is all on the tail order again.

Such as? Compton's been ruthlessly dealt with. The established batsmen (Cook, Trott, Pietersen, Bell and Prior) are all excellent that's why they don't get dropped, same with Anderson, Swann and Broad.

Bairstow did himself no favours today, he should have done better with the no bowl Siddle wicket and as for the way he got out you can't be doing that at test level. Be surprised if he makes the 3rd test.

Incredible. A guy scores 67 and should be dropped for it. His dismissal was soft but he'd played excellently until that.

I'm so glad Bell got another century, <awe>

Quality player and also does loads for charity in Cov & Warwickshire, someone I know has met him a few times said genuinely one of the nicest people you'll meet

<laugh> I met him and he came across as a not such a nice guy. I'll have to forgive him now

He was always my favorite player anyway though <awe>

Edit: Thinking about it when I met him he had just gone out for 0 and I guess that's enough to put you in a bad mood

Once again too many players under performed especially the top end. Lets hope we wan get 350 at least. Makes good viewing having said that.

I'd like to see the Aussies bat soon.

The wicket is good enough for the bowlers to cause problems and it's cooler than yesterday as well.

361 all out then. Decent effort by Swann and Broad, cheap wickets of Trott and Bairstow could really cost England though!
