Matchday thread - Toon v Man Yoo
Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Man Yoo
I missed the 2nd half as Im in S America with the wife visiting her old man - went out to eat at half time .
Sat in the bar watching Boca highlights - no mobile signal to get the result/ score (.I didn't really want to look anyway as didn't want a loss to put a damper on things.
Came back and avoided the result- just out motd on via vpn
f*** me, what a f***ing goal- that's goal of the season territory.
Osula you beauty
Someone just told me that Barcelonas two top fullbacks have been injured & out for a month
What a night

Aw no way. So I'm guessing your better half is at least half Argentinian?Slim999 wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:44 am I missed the 2nd half as Im in S America with the wife visiting her old man - went out to eat at half time .

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Man Yoo
"Every newcastle player has given everything tonight, theyve been fantastic every single one of them"....the words of toon legend john anderson on radio newcastle last night and anyone like me who has listened to his co-comm for over 30 years will know thats not like him to say that so i knew the performance must have been something extra special.
So ive only seen motd and some clips on FB, but rambo, some of his saves defied the laws of physics, talk about stretch armstrong fackin hell, flying through the air and stretching every last millimetre out of his arms to reach some of those shots, and if someone had told me before the match that osula was gonna bomb down the right wing, cut inside, do a few step overs then curl a left footed shot into the far corner of the net!... jog on smackhead
I hear osula and elanga are really good mates, bout the same age, and that goal might serve as a message to his mate, i cost £10m, you were £55m, that's what YOU should be doing.

Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Man Yoo
At the point where Gordon was injured a few of us were discussing how Osula was the perfect sub v 10 men, largely because he'll run and be unpredictable so worst case he gets you up the pitch. The proper divs behind us were whinging that Howe was taking off "our only goal threat". Wasn't expecting what came of course, but instant proof of stupidity. Same guy who sighed in exasperation as Ben Arfa did that first risky turn in the Bolton goal...
Just on Ramsdale, saves were excellent of course, but we don't win that game with Pope in goal even if he makes the same saves. Having a footballer at the back just removed a load of panic when we were in possession and kept us in a reasonable amount of control despite the 10 men.

Yeah I think Osula is an option from the bench and adds that unpredictability - he's pure chaos, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! He's not a starter but does offer a different option.
Actually think that Elanga has actually been one of our better players through a bad run tbh.FOGGONTHETYNE wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:04 pm I hear osula and elanga are really good mates, bout the same age, and that goal might serve as a message to his mate, i cost £10m, you were £55m, that's what YOU should be doing.

he has, but he's not scored a goal like that yet, that's the point.bodacious benny wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:17 pm Yeah I think Osula is an option from the bench and adds that unpredictability - he's pure chaos, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! in fact no goals and one assist is not too clever for a £55m signing, but i see what you're saying.bodacious benny wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:17 pm Yeah I think Osula is an option from the bench and adds that unpredictability - he's pure chaos, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! I do think he's been a bit unlucky (he has also been total s**** at times too!). He did get an assist against someone in the league (can't remember against who and got a good goal v City in our league cup loss (and missed a sitterFOGGONTHETYNE wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:26 pmin fact no goals and one assist is not too clever for a £55m signing, but i see what you're saying.bodacious benny wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:17 pm Yeah I think Osula is an option from the bench and adds that unpredictability - he's pure chaos, sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't! .....and i knew i recalled osula doing something similar against mighty bromley.

This. I'm not convinced on Elanga but he has looked a bit better last couple weeks but as someone mentioned only 1 goal and no assists yet there's people complaining about a declining Murphy when at least he's scored 4 + 3 assisted in all comps. Either way not really bothered who starts on the right-wing nowadays as there both not of the required standard to take us to the next level.. maybe give Osula a start out wide and see how he does?bodacious benny wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 1:32 pmI do think he's been a bit unlucky (he has also been total s**** at times too!). Re: Matchday thread - Toon v Man Yoo
Elanga is definitely growing in confidence- and it has been a confidence problem that has hindered him - but he’s looked much sharper , kept possession usually and been up for their run at defenders now .Sanchino wrote: Thu Mar 05, 2026 4:34 pmThis. I'd personally keep him there and bring in Murphy when we need to steady things - and Osula when we need to steal a goal and game is still stretched
Osula will struggle to do much against a low block - but when the game is more open he is our wild card on the right.
For Barcelona the obvious selection to start up front is as yesterday- our 3 pacey front men could cause them big problems . ( perhaps play Wissa & Murphy in FA Cup)
I think our focus needs to be CL - if we can get past Barca and get a decent draw - who knows
News from Barcelona is good- Jules Koundé (Right-back): Suffered a hamstring injury & is expected to be out for roughly 4 weeks, likely returning in early April.
Alejandro Balde (Left-back) also out fir our match .
So 2nd string defenders playing g against us - I think there could be several goals in both legs - we need a 2 goal advantage to take to Spain

Footnote to last nights great performance.
The home kit is so much bolder looking when we wear the black shorts.

If we can replicate that performance, which is a big IF, (bearing in mind the only predictable thing about us this season is our unpredictability,) we can beat citeh, without Ramsey and the usual suspects miley, tino, schar, Bruno, and wolte being doubtful, I suppose the team kinda picks itself really.
