Southampton, Swansea, Man Utd and Arsenal is an absolute killer start to a season. You'd be hard pushed to find a team with a more difficult start than that.

We desperately need a decent CB, LB and probably another striker and I'd be pretty confident. Aarons should start ahead of Obertan, and as much as I hate to admit it, it needs to be Tiote and Colback in midfield if that's the formation he's going for.
Kindly deeds done for free!

Because that £35mill didn't get us an extra CB to move Colo to the bench, didn't get us a replacement for Haidara and Cisse has been a part of our two goals this season while Mitro looks like he wants to kill everything that moves.

Obertan though, f*** sake, start Aarons instead.

I'm going to give McClaren the benefit of the doubt and say Obertan is only starting because aarons is still building up his fitness. He missed most of last season and has glass hamstrings, anyone starting him in our fist few PL games would be an idiot. We've made the mistake before of rushing players back, Pardew was slated for it. Aarons is being eased back which in the short term means more Obertan but in the long run we'll get more games out of aarons. Sensible management.

I agree that a left back, commanding centre back, and a winger are needed, but it's becoming blindingly obvious to me that we also need a good ball playing central midfielder who can dictate play. Clearly Anita and Colback are not good enough, either individually or as a pair. In both games against Southampton and Swansea it's been far too easy to run straight through our midflield, and as they also contribute nothing going forward, what exactly are they doing?

Before the season started what was everyone's expectations for the first 5 league games?

Lose to Swansea, Man U, Arsenal.

Draw v Southampton (wouldn't have been surprised if we'd lost).

Draw or win v West Ham.

Realistically a couple of points. Then we have some more winnable games.

Well 1 point from the first 2 games obviously means we're completely f***ed and that we're definitely going to get relegated.

This. I hate this club and everyone involved with it. The players aren't fit to wear the shirt and McClaren is the worst manager in our history.

Swansea on balance of play deserved to beat Chelsea last week, at their gaff and were plainly better than us. That defeat is not going to define our season and anybody going crazy after that defeat is an arse-hat.

We've got some more tough games to get through, hopefully we will scrape a few points during that time and then we will get a chance to see where we really are as a team.

Who knows a couple more decent signings <cough> CB and LB <cough> might make things look a little rosier.

I've not seen the Swansea game but I can't remember much if anything getting through them against Southampton, both goals came from the flanks.

It's been two games <laugh>

One of those we were down to 10 for 55 minutes.
It's been 2 games and Perez hasn't had a minute. Obertan and Sissoko have both started twice. We played 28 minutes without a forward against Swansea. I like Aarons but Perez would have been a better choice.

TWO games, 180 minutes of football. No time at all. We played 28 minutes without a striker due to going obscenely defensive, only way we would get a ball to Perez would be hoofing it to him vs Swansea. We were never going to get back into that game.

I want to see Perez play, but it's been 2 games. Less Obertan would be nice.

Sissoko has been one of our best players in the first two games, involved a lot and a shame he got injured vs Swansea.
