A much better idea really. National Anthem lyrics are usually pointless nationalistic drivel anyway, far better to just have a piece of music that represents and unites.
Can you compose a national anthem for this forum?

I was going to add that in the OP, but I knew you'd probably have the same idea. So, being the nice PTN I'am, I let you take the glory.

Also, any Eastern European anthem is pretty much glorious!
On 'God Save The Queen' I disagree about there being a lack of passion. An anthem is only as passionate as those performing/ singing it want it to be. I see no problem in the lyrics of it as far as it being a relatively old anthem that will obviously have stuff about God in there, if people are proud to sing it then it really doesn't matter what it's about, it's hardly like people really believe everything they're singing!

Nah, have to disagree here. If the national anthem is Largo and comprised of 2 or 3 notes, each lasting several bars, then you can sing it as passionate as you can, it will still be boring as hell and unsuitable.

Alright maybe I shouldn't have been so sweeping, but certainly God Save The Queen can be made passionate.

Well, we can dispute that too

, I think it's a boring piece of music. Slow is fine, if done well. "I Vow to Thee, My Country" by Holst is a good example.

I'm not saying that I like it by any means

What I mean is that if people are passionate enough about the music they'll be able to convey it in their performance of it, unless of course it's something that's just 3 notes. Whilst it's not a great piece of music, God Save The Queen, sung in the right way, can come across as passionate. In my opinion anyway

I've never heard it performed in such a way, I suppose that doesn't rule out the possibility though

.

I think the English National Anthem should be the John Barnes rap.

Since you've all probably watch the games (therefore hearing the anthems), what's the music that players walk out to, that stops just before they do the anthems?
EDIT: Never mind

Imagine the whole squad stood in a line singing

Since ' God Save the Queen' is the British National anthem, England should use.
