I'd try not to write him off based on a month and a half - which everyone similarly did with Elliot and Darlow too before they also grew into the role.Fonda Trevanion wrote:But he wins the flapping at corners trophy hands down - number 3 at best when all fit

I'm over Colo wrote:In terms of distribution, Sels has a 55.4% passing completion rate so far this season, 7% better than Darlow (this season, 12% than him last season), and ~10% better than our keeper average over last 7 seasons (and 4% better than the second best season % in that period). Now I know there's a lot more to goalkeeping than distribution, but if Sels deserves special credit for something, it's for very consistent passing.

Isn't passing distribution for a keeper pretty tricky to interpret? If they're both around 50% it must include humped balls forward and goal kicks in which case you're just hoping your player wins the header and knocks your stat up?I'm over Colo wrote:In terms of distribution, Sels has a 55.4% passing completion rate so far this season, 7% better than Darlow (this season, 12% than him last season), and ~10% better than our keeper average over last 7 seasons (and 4% better than the second best season % in that period). Both have mediocre distribution, both have about the same rating. I dont think theres a great deal of difference in their quality honestly. They both seem alright but not great.

Re: Match day thread NUFC v Ipswich town
Sure, and that's why I looked at every keeper for the past 7 years to see the what kind of averages we could expect, and looking at Harper, Elliot, Krul and Darlow, their season passing completion rates ranged from a low of 39% (Elliot in his first season), to a high of 51%, with most in the mid 40s. You're right, it could be a fluke, but I think a lot of people subjectively identified that Sels' distribution looked good, and the stats suggest the same. And considering we haven't been using a target man this season, it's not exactly like we've had someone to successfully lump it forward to either. The fact that Darlow's passing completion rate since coming into a very successful side is lower (and in line with what he's done in the past), also suggests Sels' stats aren't simply a product of Rafa or different tactics this season either.Colly wrote:Isn't passing distribution for a keeper pretty tricky to interpret? I hadn't seen the goal from the very beginning before - that's crazy!
Re: Match day thread NUFC v Ipswich town
Absolutely brilliant. By far and away goal of the season.
If Barca scored that the media would be wanking in a frenzy over it for weeks to come.
