Heatwave - Love or Hate?
It's too hot.
I don't have a swimming pool.
But I am off work so that helps.
But I am too hot.
Anyone else too hot or are you loving this baking sunshine?

Re: Heatwave - Love or Hate?
Hosted a BBQ on Monday which was bloody stupid. Started prepping from 8am and the kitchen was already too hot before I'd even put on a hob.
Finished all the prep about 12:00 and then went outside to sort the BBQ out and was dreading what was coming.
From about 1pm to 5pm I was essentially cooking myself in the heat. Drank litres of water to keep going.
Finally had my first beer just after 5pm in the shade and fell asleep.
Woke up Tuesday morning with a pounding headache, aches and cramps so I think I had heat exhaustion.
The guests though had a lovely time.

Hate the heat personally.
But more than that I have three sheep and they still have their winter coats. Absolutely horrible for them. Been having to hose them down throughout the day. They are getting sheared tomorrow though so should be easier for them after that.
Never understood why people like being hot and sweaty. I've always preferred being slightly on the cold side to being overly warm. But then I still wear t-shirt and shorts all winter.

Heat I don't mind up to a point but the f***ing humidity kills me. It's too heavy and uncomfortable.
It’s the noise, the passion, the feeling of belonging, the pride in your city.

I wonder if shearing season needs to be brought forward now that it's becoming quite normal to get much warmer weather earlier in the year than it has been historicallyDonkey Toon wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 8:44 pm Hate the heat personally.

Yeah i've been thinking the same. There was an overly warm spell last May as well, not as bad as this year but bad enough. The shearing time was dictated by the only person I could find to do it this year, but I think i'm going to buy my own gear and do it myself next year if necessary. Was horrible seeing them suffer this week.bodacious benny wrote: Fri May 29, 2026 11:42 amI wonder if shearing season needs to be brought forward now that it's becoming quite normal to get much warmer weather earlier in the year than it has been historicallyDonkey Toon wrote: Thu May 28, 2026 8:44 pm Hate the heat personally.

Yeah I bet - bad enough worrying about keeping a dog cool and that’s miles easier! We had cold flannels on our dog on Tuesday night when it was hottest, not really an option with a sheep!Donkey Toon wrote: Fri May 29, 2026 10:46 pmYeah i've been thinking the same. Actually as well as hosing them down regularly I tried soaking blankets in the water trough and putting them on their backs. But they kept shaking them off. Also not sure whether the water would really get through to their bodies. Theorising that the wool is so absorbent it soaks it up away from their skin. Seems that way when they happily stand out for hours on end in pouring rain during winter anyway.bodacious benny wrote: Sat May 30, 2026 8:21 amYeah I bet - bad enough worrying about keeping a dog cool and that’s miles easier! Doesn't help that they had been dehorned at birth (by breeders). Sheep just like goats are able to heat regulate by losing heat through their horns, so they didn't have that to help them either. It is why I haven't dehorned any of my goats.

I'm in the Greek island with MrsOT and she got badly burnt the first day. Now day 7 and still having to find shaded places for her.
It's been about 30 here everyday, bright sunshine and very little cloud or breeze. If it wasn't for pools or the beach to cool down in, I'd be quite insane by now.

I was in Rhodes last week and it was absolutely perfect - about 26-27 degrees every day, not a cloud in the sky and not muggy at all. Ideal!

Aw that sucks. It's not about burning on the 1st day of your hols and having to spend it in the shade!overseasTOON wrote: Fri Jun 12, 2026 7:57 amI'm in the Greek island with MrsOT and she got badly burnt the first day. Now day 7 and still having to find shaded places for her.

I agree though. Without the pool/sea the holiday would be a nightmare.
