Matchday thread - Toon v Cherries

Post by UlversToon »

Saturday sees the Cherries in Toon, as Eddie Howe makes another attempt to record a first Premier League success for the Magpies against his former club.

Although Newcastle have beaten Bournemouth at SJP in both Carabao Cup and FA Cup ties under Howe, they are winless in all seven home or away PL meetings to date - drawing five and losing the other two.

Since our FA Cup success at SJP on penalties in January, Andoni Iraola's side are unbeaten in all 11 fixtures.

Saturday will be Bournemouth's first game since their Spanish coach confirmed that he won't be renewing his contract at the end of the season.

It's an old-fashioned, non-televised 3pm start.

The visitors have taken an allocation of 1,726 tickets.

Former Magpies Andy Cole and Tony Cunningham will be on the field before kick-off as part of Show Racism The Red Card's 30th anniversary activities.

The duo and nine other SJP old boys form the Magpies first eleven black players, to be commemorated in banner form by Wor Flags and forming an exhibition in the Milburn Stand:

Howard Gayle, Tony Cunningham, Mirandinha, Franz Carr, Justin Fashanu, Andrew Cole, Ruel Fox, Les Ferdinand, Shaka Hislop, Tino Asprilla, John Barnes.

(We're unsure the Robledo brothers weren't included, given that the equivalent Boro XI includes Lindy Delapenha from back in the 1950s).

Team: Bruno Guimaraes is back in training and may feature in Saturday's matchday squad, having missed the last 12 games in all competitions. In his absence, United have collected six PL points from a possible 18.

Joelinton begins a two game suspension while both Fabian Schar and Emil Krafth remain out.

Coral rate this game as follows:

NUFC win 19/20
The draw 14/5
AFCB win 5/2

AFCB: Justin Kluivert and Lewis Cook remain out, while Julio Soler is doubtful.

Ahead of their visit to Tyneside, Bournemouth ended a run of five successive Premier League draws with a 2-1 victory at Arsenal.

That extended their unbeaten PL run to 12 games home and away and seven on the road (four draws and three wins).

Referee: Tom Bramall - third PL game involving Newcastle this season for the Sheffield whistler, after the 2-2 home draw with Spurs and 1-2 loss at Manchester City.

Bramall was also in charge of the FA Cup meeting between United and Bournemouth in January.

With all the negativity surrounding that nice Mr Howe I'm going for a smile inducing 3-1 win to the lads....HWTL.
My problem is reconciling my gross behaviour with my net income.

No Gordon?
Time to start speculating about him going on strike and/or protecting his fitness for the World Cup + transfer <divax>

Watched 30 mins

Pretty clear that Bmouth are better than us

Tactically, energy wise , possession.

I can understand the energy benefit as they've played fewer games.

But not why theyre better in other ways.

Id say watching it that they attack and defend as a team / unit. We do it in bits & pieces

They seem quicker , fitter , more confident

I’m utterly fatigued with our non stop ability to implode.
Bournemouth, amongst many other middling teams with all due respect, are better than us.
Simple.

The EH chapter of Newcastle’s history is coming to an end in my opinion.
Multitude of reasons, but when you break it down it’s about results.
Our ownership must be looking at this project now and formulating some response.

Someone explain to me how we can simultaneously not press and not mark? Awful game but even worse goals conceded.

Has to go at the end of the season, if not now, would maybe be unfair but I'd fully understand it.

I've been critical for a couple of years now about the exact same issues that are still plaguing us to this day and it's really hitting us hard now. He's had long enough to solve some of these issues and hasn't.

All it took was losing a world class striker and that paper is slowly peeling off of those cracked walls.

Absolutely s**** that. Clear lack of effort. They were all awful but special shout out to Barnes who put in would of the worst performances of the season, Elanga who is abosulte **** and Livramento who clearly doesn't want to be here.

I'd shake things up radically against Arsenal, just to do something different. Like to see something like this.
Pope
Trippier Schar* Burn Hall
Miley Tonali Bruno
Osula Woltermade Gordon"

*If fit, if not then Thiaw.
"If fit, if not then Ramsey or Willock.l out of position as Barnes/Elanga/Murphy all need punished.

Didn't watch but seems to me that half of the team don't give a f*** and already have one foot out the door... and after the the rat saga it wouldn't surprise me if some follow suit and go on strike to force a move.

That aside - I think we have been massively found out for the past season and a half. Other teams have us worked out and the changes EH has tried to make this season haven't made a difference and I'm not sure he has anything else to offer that is going to take us forward.

I can't wait for this season to be over and I feel massively pessimistic about next season. We have a massive rebuild on our hands with multiple players likely leaving and potentially EH leaving too - I don't feel confident we can attract quality players/managers and replace them with better.
