Just going to point out if Premier Leagues bans and strips the Super 6 of their titles and awards Leagues to the next club based on position we'd win 6 Premier League Titles!!!

I've read a few people suggesting it might be their Qatari owners not wanting to upset FIFA so close to the World Cup, but no idea beyond that. Not so arsed about PSG to be honest...

I dont know how it all works but is there some kind of licensing needed to hold sporting events at stadiums? If the government is to get involved is it possible they could revoke such a licence and revoke broadcasting licences too. I know it seems a bit North Korean, but surely this is a direct threat to the British economy and to a British institution.

In the event the the PL and FA fail to get the 6 kicked out of the league they should do their best to sabotage the ESL fixtures. For example, Liverpool are scheduled to play Real Madrid at 7.30pm on 21st April at Anfield.

So the PL schedules Liverpool vs Burnley at 7.30pm on 21st April, claiming that as the ESL is not a recognised competition by their rules then they are not obliged to take it into account when scheduling fixtures. Then make it clear that failure to fulfil the fixture will result in them forfeiting the game 3-0 a points deduction and a fine. I think it should be possible to schedule a dozen or so midweek games like this for each of the clubs spread over the league and cups.

I feel like if they keep asking Klopp more and more questions he'll be more and more frank. Keep winding him up journalists, eventually we'll get some great quotes. Though his last gasp "don't be mean to the boys", a football club is more than decisions stand felt weak. Bielsa was fantastically blunt - no surprise there.

Also, a bit rich to have managers and people associated with those 6 clubs pretending like they'd never heard about it until yesterday. This story has been in the news for a long time now, not even as rumours, but well documented. So although this is the first official press release, I don't believe Klopp couldn't have learned more about it if he hadn't wanted to instead bury his head in the sand until s*** hit the fan.

Felt a bit sorry for Klopp tbh he's a proper football man who was basically thrown to the wolves by his employers tonight.

You could tell he was pissed off and uncomfortable.

Oh for sure, it was awkward to watch, and you could tell he was trying to thread the needle of keeping everyone happy, and that was never achievable.

Unrelated, the other thing I wanted to vent about is that it's hilarious that all of these "super clubs" claim needing this for the sustainability of the game, and their own clubs, because they themselves have been competing against each other to spend more and more ridiculous sums of money on player transfer fees and wages for the past 2 decades. With the revenues in the game right now they should be making money hand over fist, but instead they've let their operating costs explode too, and instead of reigning in their own spending, they just desperately seek greater and more guaranteed revenue.

Every statement has been ridiculous, trying to make out like they're doing it for the good of the game, and that they, the richest clubs in Europe, have somehow suffered the most during the pandemic. It's pure greed and it's not even well hidden.

If they wanna run football clubs like businesses and create anti-competitive coalitions then hit them with some anti-competition fines each and every time they compete, and distribute that amongst the 86 other teams + grassroots football. I think a fine of circa £350m each time would be a nice figure

It’s laughable how Sky, BT and the people they pay to present / commentate are so outraged by this when they’ve been part of the problem for decades now. Sky are the founding members of the “take football away from the fans” brigade, Neville, Lineker etc. take multimillion pound salaries. They all live in a bubble and don’t see that all of them are part of a far bigger problem in football.

I don't want to jump down your throat here, but I think there's a bit of the image below about this take re Neville

Neville was 17 when the Sky breakaway happened. And he's been vocal on a number of issues. sky has contributed to some of the current issues with football, but it doesn't mean its employees shouldn't try and help even worse things from happening.

Bojo is now involved and has stated he'll do everything in his power to stop this from happening so basically we'll have a Super League.

True, but we're still talking about the lesser of two evils which maybe is the best that you can hope for.

Formal PL meeting today with the 6 breakaway clubs not invited, will be interested to see what (if any) sanctions come from this. Such cynical timing from the ESL to announce this out of the blue near the end of the season, and at a time where no fans are in stadiums as they know that the backlash would have been massive.

Small but symbolic gesture, Liverpool supporters groups have removed all of their flags from the Kop so when we play them at the weekend they'll be gone.
