Almiron’s cardio fitness must be through the roof! He’d be perfect at somewhere like Leeds who never stop <laugh>

Agree with this. Players need to play in positions that they are comfortable in. Willock looks decent breaking from midfield, doesn't mean he can lead the line. It's a completely different position.
And as I said a while back, even though we're short up front our weakest position is CM, so to take potentially our most influential one and stick him up front is madness. There's a bit of me that could maybe see Almiron at the point of the diamond, but wherever he is he's going to do the same job of covering ground everywhere, and I'd sooner see him using his pace out wide before coming in rather than trying to battle through the middle of the park.
Yeah agreed.. I'm thinking what about something like this(strikeless yes but could work) :

Hayden
M.Longstaff S.Longstaff/Willock**
Willock / Fraser*
Miggy ---- ASM

<scratch> Miggy's pace could cause problems in the wide-forward role with ASM.. Willock/Fraser could be pressing up in the attacking mid role with the Longstaffs helping out defensively & attaking-wise.

I'm the only person to say Carroll, just look at west brom their striker is bullying the oppositions defenders and there picking up points (slowly) we need someone who can hold up play then bring the runners into it and hes great in the air, i dont think i'd play him for 90 mins but i'd sure give him ago.

just look how Diagne (WBA) has made himself a nuisance, he absolutely battered lindeloff.

edit: I also think Shelvey and hendrick should be replaced with matty and anderson.

actually like the look of this...

The difference with Diagne is that he can also create chances for himself (Carroll can’t) and he can sustain it for 90 minutes (Carroll can’t). Tho I agree that he has made a difference at wba.

He has only scored one goal though, and from memory he should have had a few others from decent chances. I'm really not that concerned about West Brom.

Oh yeah I’m not worried about them at all, though they’ll probably beat us <laugh>

Even with 10 men they should have beaten Burnley last week, had a couple of great chances.

This. You make good points & if we were to line-up in a 4-2-3-1 that would be the players I'll have. Saying this tho.. Bruce will play those players & mess things up. The only issue is Diagne is a more mobile target-man than Carroll & as someone mentioned he can create chances for himself while Carroll is more someone who needs the right service like the right type of cross/delivery & passes.. he's not gonna run in behind & run the channels plus he won't last 90 mins but yes he'll give us a threat in the air & a physical presence.. for him to start & be effective we need our best crosses on the pitch like Murphy, Ritchie & Fraser. I want him to start against Wolves upfront with ASM with Miggy in behind them in the usual diamond formation. If things don't work to plan & we're 0-1 or 0-0 down then bring on Gayle at half time/hour mark.

Yeah I'd like something like that v Wolves and WBA. Almiron/Fraser/Gayle can press from the front, Hayden providing cover, Willock full of energy and getting forward too. Neto/Traore v Krafth/Lewis is a worry tho.

Not only that but knowing Bruce he'll start either Hendrick or Shelvey or even worse BOTH. <erk>

Moutinho & Neves vs Shelvey & Hendrick... two classy technically brilliant central midfielders against two slow & uninspiring central midfielders? <urgh>

The more I think about it the more I think we could lose this game.

I feel personally we should match up to them in our own 3-4-3 with Murphy & Lewis as wing-backs to combat the pace of Neto & Traore.. Hayden as DM, Willock as a no.8 & Miggy as no.10 with ASM & Fraser/Gayle as the wide forwards. <scratch>

I voted Joelinton but I'd throw Carroll in now, he actually looked decent when he played a month or so ago.

Carroll is long past it, the only thing left that he can do well these days is foul opposition defenders.

That spell between Leicester and Villa he was easily our most dangerous player. He missed some good chances but he was getting in good positions which is more than Joelinton does.

Be worth putting him on the bench at the very least. If academy product's aren't getting a chance in a decimated squad, they never will - and then what's the point?

Cowardly managing, fearing relegation and persisting with what is established as having not worked than try inexperienced players. It's been a problem for the past decade.
