Re: Holidays
Just back from Oslo (3 nights) & Kraków (4 nights) same trip both amazing places and opposite ends of the spectrum in terms of price, both were absolutely brilliant though
Budapest was my favourite European city but I think Kraków might have taken its place it's just amazing !

There are masses of pubs in Dublin but many rip off tourists.Chappy wrote:Off to Dublin for the weekend next month... any recommendations on stuff to do/places to visit?
This guide was really useful acccording to a friend who went recently as he'd become bored of going through the same places time and again on different stag weekends.

Re: Holidays
Stay well away from Temple Bar, it's god awful and a tourist trap. Pretty much everywhere else has some decent boozers kicking about. There was a quality little cocktail bar near the Ha'penny bridge on the Liffey, was all dark and like a little circus tent inside with plush seating and red lighting, but served brilliant whisky cocktails and pretty much everything else you could think of. Pricey though.Chappy wrote:Off to Dublin for the weekend next month... any recommendations on stuff to do/places to visit?
Quite liked some of the side streets off Grafton Street on the south side of the river, towards St. Stephen's Green. Was a nice mixture of locals and students with some nice little pubs playing cool music and some local dives full of old Dublin folk.
I really liked Grogans pub which was down that way, proper little dive inside but it was full of interesting characters, a nice atmosphere, loads of local artwork for sale on the walls, no TV or music and it does a beautiful pint of the black stuff. About half of what you'd pay in Temple Bar.

Have a stroll in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gion" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and around the hill at the https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fushimi_Inari-taisha" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; in Kyoto.
Better be there at sunrise, because it get's pretty crowdy later in the day.
Enjoy the sunset from the http://www.japan-guide.com/e/e3011_tocho.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Never mind the skytree, it's costly and you have to wait in line for quite a while to get up there.
Shibuya crossing and Takeshita Dori street in the evening are excellent places to get an impression of Japanese youth culture,
Yoyogi Park with the Meji shrine right across the metro line nearTakeshita Dori.
Have a look inside a pachinko hall, have some happy hour after work beers beside Tokyo business men in one of the countless bars

I know, it's hard with everything going on with the club at the moment. But I'm going in March next year, so there's at least some hope we'll be in a better position than we're right now.
Re: Holidays
Hozugawa boat ride is enjoyable as is the train ride to the jumping off point. Some of the Kyoto temples are a bit grim these days (at least they were this summer) as they are literally overrun by Chinese tourists. Nara is a nice place for a day trip. Ask your hotel for some restaurant recommendations. Tofu meals in Kyoto are good - Arashiyama area has some good places. Pontochō is another obvious area to go to for a meal.Cisse's Overheating Torso wrote:Tokyo/Kyoto recommendations welcome, off tomorrow and planned nowt
