Your Player Ratings vs Chelsea (26/09/15)

Post by Al-Calo »

Rate the players, leave a comment and they'll be collated for use in the TFI match report and database. The more people that leave ratings the better it will be. It's important that you don't exaggerate player ratings, if you do it defeats the purpose of us collecting the data, so be as objective as possible. Clearly ridiculous ratings aren't included, so giving undeserved 1s or 10s won't skew ratings. Also, use the order I've posted, as it's a lot harder to collect the data otherwise.

Don't just submit blanket ratings like "1 for everyone", the point of this is to rate individual performances.

Rate in multiples of 0.5 up to a maximum of 10 (7, 7.5, 8, etc). Anything else will be rounded to the nearest .5 anyway.

Use this order. Please.

Krul -

Janmaat -
Mbemba -
Coloccini -
Mbabu -

Sissoko -
Anita -
Colback -
Wijnaldum -

Ayoze -
Mitrović -

Obertan -
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren -

Use the order above.

For consistency, please try to rate players roughly along the lines of this scale. 1s and 10s should be extremely rare and only for performances that could be considered among the best/worst of all time or the absolute best/worst that could be done.
10 - A godlike performance, such as getting a hat-trick of goals/assists or being utterly dominant at the back. This should be a rarity.
9 - Outstanding performance.
8 - Very good performance.
7 - Good performance.
6 - High average.
5.5 - Average average. Use this as the baseline.
5 - Low average.
4 - Poor, perhaps with the occasional bright moment.
3 - Very bad, several mistakes with little to no redemption.
2 - Horrendous, almost as bad as it is possible to perform.
1 - Among the worst performances of all time. This should be extremely rare.

Krul - 7.5

Janmaat - 8 unfortunate slip for their first aside he's quality
Mbemba - 7.5 love him
Coloccini - 7 better
Mbabu - 8 how he plays like that on his debut V pedro I don't know. Not really sure on his attacking decision making

Sissoko - 4.5 anonymous
Anita - 7
Colback - 6 better than he has been but still average
Wijnaldum - 6.5

Ayoze - 8 huge work rate, excellent goal
Mitrović - calm, hard working, held the ball up very well, drew loads of fouls to relieve play. We can hold onto the ball so much better with hom

Obertan - 7.5 good hold up play
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7 much better formation but taking off mitro meant we couldn't keep the ball

Krul - 8 Some good saves, unlucky for their first nothing he could have done

Janmaat - 7.5 Good
Mbemba - 7.5 Good
Coloccini - 7.5 Much better
Mbabu - 8.5 Couldn't get off to a better start than that, should start next match

Sissoko - 6 Played his part, lacking a little bit going forward
Anita - 8 Good forward passing, we look a much better side when he plays
Colback - 7 Was having his best game for ages until the booking, went off a bit after that. Unfortunate injury
Wijnaldum - 7.5 Worked hard and provided some much needed energy

Ayoze - 8.5 Goal, hes easily the best player at the club
Mitrović - 8.5 Chelsea just couldn't handle him, shame he didn't have 90mins in him today

Obertan - 7 Did his job at the back, offered some pace on the break
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 8.5 Not much more he could do today, being 2-0 up against Chelsea is excellent but the team started to run out of steam at the end and we didn't have the players on the bench to impact the game. If we'd had better squad depth we might of got the win.

Krul - 6.5 - Think he has to take a little blame for the second, just sort of flapped a bit, but pulled off some brilliant saves.

Janmaat - 7 - Dragged the team forward regularly, didn't seem to have as much weight on his shoulders this game.
Mbemba - 7 - Absolute beast at the back.
Coloccini - 6 - Solid, a few decent interventions.
Mbabu - 7.5 - Bossed it. Finally some sort of threat down the left and he can actually defend. Hopefully he can cement a place.

Sissoko - 6 - Was alright, didn't notice anything special though.
Anita - 7 - Made a few crucial tackles and looked fairly comfortable throughout.
Colback - 5.5 - Great at the start but faded.
Wijnaldum - 7 - Far, far better from him. Well taken goal and some neat work in possession.

Ayoze - 8 - Golden god.
Mitrović - 7- Actual presence up front <awe>

Obertan - 6 - Decent enough.
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 6.5 - Nice to see a change in formation and some genuine attacking threat.

Krul - 6.5 - Some good saves, especially to keep it at 2-2 but must be disappointed at the second goal as it went through the middle. Normally if it floats into the corners the keepers have some excuse but even with the onrushing Ramires, it went in through the middle of the goal.

Janmaat - 6.5 - Tried hard, some neat touches and good going forward.
Mbemba - 6.5 Some vital blocks, excellent work rate and when the ball is on the floor he looks world class. When the ball is in the air, he is really poor. Remy twice lost him (once he was offside) from aerial crosses out wide and really should have scored. This was;t the first occasion, he's had trouble all season with them.
Coloccini - 7 Had a good game today, despite two goals. Saw Sky Sport's criticising for the second goal but am not so sure.
Mbabu - 8 For his first prem start he was exceptional. I know he made a few mistakes but defensively he was 100x better than Haidara and his work rate was exceptional.

Sissoko - 4 A lot of people have given Sissoko more stick than he's deserved this season, but today he was really poor. Gave away unnecessary free kicks which cost 1 goal and almost a second, offered nothing going forward and was poor defensively.
Anita - 7.5 A good midfield display, battled hard, won some important tackles and distribution was good.
Colback - 6.5 Decent display in midfield, some nice touches and also worked hard but not as good as Anita.
Wijnaldum - 7 Excellent second goal, work rate was good.

Ayoze - 7.5 Brilliant first goal, work rate epitomised what he's about and a constant threat all day.
Mitrović - 8.5 No goals but made a MASSIVE difference to the team. No one in the squad can do what he did today. Bullied the Chelsea defence, offered an outlet and excellent work rate, often coming back to defend! MoM performance, if he can keep the rash tackles down he can be a spearhead for the team for the whole season.

Obertan - 5 Didn't offer much of an outlet with his pace, not sure why McClaren plays him on the left.
Toney - 5 Not much time for an impact but was marking no one for the second goal.
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7 Got a much better performance with 4-4-2. Key decisions were dropping Haidara and getting Mitro back. We still have a long way to go, but this is an encouraging start. A little confused why he subbed Mitro instead of Perez. Perez was clearly exhausted and wasn't offering an outlet like Mitro can. Also Mitro is an excellent defensive option for set pieces, something we sorely missed in the last 10 minutes.

Krul - 8 - Can't blame him him for the second goal. I would give him 7, but I really liked his denies against Falcao and Remy... despite the offsides.

Janmaat - 8
Mbemba - 7
Coloccini - 8
Mbabu - 8.5 - Perhaps Ayoze was better, but MOM for me is Mbabu... can't believe this was his debut... Pedro was his b****.

Sissoko - 5 - Hide and seek whole game
Anita - 6
Colback - 6
Wijnaldum - 7 - Have some moments.

Ayoze - 8.5 - Tracking back, attacking threat... He gave everything,
Mitrović - 8 - Very calm and mature. Hope he will continue with that.

Obertan - 6 - Nothing.
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 8 - I hoped that he will chose 4-4-2, but didn't expect that will happen... but he did it. Now he must not go back to 4-2-3-1!

Krul - 8 can't fault him for their goals. Some decent saves and good distribution.

Janmaat - 7.5 Decent attacking threat as ever, maybe should've scored. Decent game.
Mbemba - 7.5 Gave it away once or twice, but becoming a very accomplished defender.
Coloccini - 7 Good display and definitely put in the effort today
Mbabu - 8 I was worried when I saw he was starting, but was excellent. Better than Haidara has been all season.

Sissoko - 5 Didn't seem to do much.
Anita - 7 Quietly went about his business and covered Janmaat well at times.
Colback - 5.5 Ok
Wijnaldum - 7 showed that he's far better when not playing in the no.10 position.

Ayoze - 8 Excellent goal and never gave up.
Mitrović - 8 Did everything that he had to do and gave his all. The goals will come.

Obertan - 6 He was alright
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7 Can't fault the formation and line up

Krul - 7.5 Some mint saves, couldn't really do much about either of the goals. Distribution actually seemed improved

Janmaat - 7
Mbemba - 6.5
Coloccini - 7
Mbabu - 8 Looked an absolute beast, couldn't have asked for a stronger PL debut. If McClaren picks Haidara over him next week he's a true fool.

Sissoko - 4 I can feel the negativity seeping out of him. Doesn't want to play for Newcastle anymore, get him off the pitch and give one of our young players the chance.
Anita - 7 Ran the game first half
Colback - 7 As above
Wijnaldum - 7 Solid if unremarkable, gets an extra half point for the goal

Ayoze - 8.5 Shows time and time again that he is the best player we have.
Mitrović - 8 Showed the kind of passion that we've been so desperately lacking the last couple of games. He'll start scoring soon and it'll be phenomenal.

Obertan - 5 Pointless
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7

Krul - 7 - Made some great saves, even the offside ones count! Not seen the 2nd goal back yet but he didn't move, looked offside mind.

Janmaat - 6 - Got forward but standing off Hazard led to their first.
Mbemba - 6 - Decent performance, some great interceptions.
Coloccini - 5 - 2nd goal his fault, should have tracked his man and would have cleared with ease.
Mbabu - 8 - Would be a 7 but an extra point considering it was his first game. Some great challenges.

Sissoko - 1 - Dog s***. If he ever plays for the Toon again it will be too soon.
Anita - 7 - One of the best in that role when he is on form.
Colback - 6 - Put himself about, fairly limited.
Wijnaldum - 7 - Looked much better on the wing.

Ayoze - 9 - How he ever gets left out is beyond me. Best player on the pitch.
Mitrović - 6 - Put himself about and kept his temper in check. Tired badly.

Obertan - 7 - A great outlet, better passing to him would have seen us put the game to bed IMO.
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 6 - Got the selection spot on (apart from Sissoko) and the tactics were good. Can't really legislate for a wonder goal and an offside (not seen it back yet) goal. He really REALLY needs to drop Sissoko for City. He is the weak link in the team. Even Thauvin is a better option, surely.

Krul - 8 - Say what you want about his positioning and distribution but he's one of the best reaction-save goalkeepers in the Prem.

Janmaat - 8 - Absolutely solid. A genuine leader.
Mbemba - 8 - Oozes class. Maybe needs to work on his positioning for cross and set pieces but the Chancellor has been excellent since signing.
Coloccini - 7 - When we're bad, he's really bad, when we're good, he's okay
Mbabu - 8.5 - Extra .5 for the fact it was such a massive game for him to be thrown into and he absolutely destroyed one of the media's darlings (Hazard) and kept Pedro quiet. Felt absolutely gutted for him because he worked so hard for a clean sheet.

Sissoko - 6.5 - He was genuinely the only player who didn't look as though he was giving 100%. Pretty wasteful. I still think he needs to be a poor man's Yaya and play behind the 3 AMs
Anita - 7 - Kept a bit of a calm, slowed things down when Chelsea were bombing at us
Colback - 6 - I genuinely don't think his tireless running is down to effort, I think he's just a bit special and just likes running and clattering into things. Not sure he made a forward pass all day. Again.
Wijnaldum - 8 - Pure class. Probably much too good for this football club.

Ayoze - 9 - He's my favourite footballer at the moment. Quick, great feet, great movement, a better eye for goal than people give him credit for. Absolutely sensational finish
Mitrović - 9 - That is effort, Jack Colback. That is passion. That is playing for the shirt. His hold up play was as good as I've seen since Andy Carroll was ripping up the Championship. Absolute bull. He and Ayoze could have a real Shearer-Bellamy partnership going. Great connection.

Obertan - 6
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7.5 - Colback and Sissoko still being in the squad was annoying and I think the two changes he did make were through force rather than choice. Not convinced by the subs he made, I would have liked him to shore up the defence a little earlier. At all, actually, but I suppose we don't have an abundance of defensive options.

Krul - 8. Great saves to deny Remy and Falcao. Nothing he could have done about that second goal, it was just a good set piece.

Janmaat - 7. Love his commitment and his desire to get forward. Should have the armband.
Mbemba - 7. He's so classy, read the game so well yesterday.
Coloccini - 7. Assured display.
Mbabu - 8. Probably the best debut I can remember for one of our youngsters. Has Pedro found his way out of his pocket yet?

Sissoko - 4. Needless fouls all day long, plus his decision making was poor. Was the only player who still didn't look like he'd got his act together. Stinking attitude.
Anita - 7. Kept things ticking over and slowed things down when it needed it.
Colback - 7. I've slated him this year but credit to him, he stepped it up yesterday, made it very difficult for Chelsea to make any headway.
Wijnaldum - 7. Looked like the player we know he can be. Put a great shift in.

Ayoze - 8. Great finish and complimented Mitrovic very well. Maybe a few question marks over his decision making at times but was still an excellent display, full of running.
Mitrović - 8. Actually gives us some prescience up front and loved his passion. Chelsea just couldn't cope with him at times.

Obertan - 6. Did what he needed to do, provided us with some pace on the counter.
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7. Credit to McClaren, he made changes and clearly got the players (minus Sissoko) up for it. Shame we didn't have the depth on the bench to see out the game but tactically he got it spot on.

Krul 6.5- Couple of good saves, felt the first Chelsea goal was a brilliant strike and the 2nd one was unfortunate.

Janmaat 7- Very good going forward, made some good defensive blocks as well.
Mbemba 7- Looks comfortable and composed.
Coloccini 6.5- Probably sounds harsh but felt he was a bit slow getting to the ball for the Ramires goal. Apart from that didn't do a lot wrong.
Mbabu 8- Defended very well and for the main part had the better of Pedro. Positioning might have been poor at times which led to the chance that Pedro skied. Still looked a very good and assured defender.

Sissoko 5- Noticed him more on Match of the Day than at the game. Didn't think it was a foul for the free kick that Willian scored from.
Anita 6- Steady performance, Still think he's one of our weaker players overall.
Colback 8- Lot of very good performances, thought first half an hour he was best player on the pitch, especially good after looking poor against West Ham and Watford.
Wijnaldum 7.5- Looked back to the player who we saw in the first few games in August. Play like that and he'll turn out to be a very good signing.

Ayoze 8.5- Man of the match for me. Very good control and finish for the goal. Also linked up well with Mitrovic throughout and caused them problems.
Mitrovic 8- Gave Chelsea problems and grew stronger as the match went on, linked up better with Perez than Cisse ever has.

Obertan 5- Really struggled. Not convinced the guy is good enough.
Toney N/A
de Jong N/A

McClaren 8- Would have been easy to turn up and feel sorry for themselves but had the team set up to have a right go. Thought we were unlucky not to win.

Krul - 7. Perhaps could have done better with the second goal. Allowed the run of the Chelsea player to distract him. Nothing he could do about the first. Made some good saves as well. Even if most of them were offside anyway but he wasn't to know.

Janmaat - 7. One if our biggest attacking threats and put the work in defensively.
Mbemba - 7. Made some excellent blocks and clearances. Very good defending inside the box.
Coloccini - 7. Big improvement on recent games. Looked like his old composed self. Defended well.
Mbabu - 8. Much better than Haidara has ever played for us. Kept Pedro quiet and when they switched Hazard over to his side he dealt with him easily as well.

Sissoko - 5. Put in some good work defensively. Pretty useless attacking wise though.
Anita - 7. He did ok. Outclassed Colback again but that's because he has some sort of positional sense rather than just going charging round the pitch. Dropped deep and defended well when he needed to.
Colback - 6.. He's just not very good. Positionally he's terrible which means he's always having to having to make up for it by diving into last ditch tackles and committing fouls. Put in lots if effort though.
Wijnaldum - 8. Took his goal very well. Good all round performance as well. He's very intelligent with the ball.

Ayoze - 9. Man of the match for me. Showed great understanding and link up with Mitrovic. Worked the channels very well. Took his goal spectacularly. What a magnificent first touch then an incredible finish as well. His set pieces are much better than anything we've seen from Thauvin, Colback or Wijnaldum as well. Probably the only person in the squad who can actually take corners.
Mitrović - 8. Great centre forwards display. Held the ball up well. Brought others into the game. Bullied the centre halfs. Showed a great understanding with Perez. Put in an incredible amount of effort as well.

Obertan - 6. Did well defensively and his pace is always a threat. Definitely more suited to the 4-4-2 winger role than in a 4-2-3-1. He'd be more effective on the right though in place is Sissoko.
Toney - N/A. Did well when he came on.
de Jong - N/A. Made a nice pass but got injured in the process.

McClaren - 7. Much better. Amazing what happenes when we don't play the ridiculous formation not suited to our players that has been failing us for about 2 years now. Mitrovic and Perez are already showing a great understanding. They will form a fantastic strike partnership. We need to keep playing two upfront now.

Krul - 7 - Lovely first half save from Fabregas drive. Good 2nd half save also but the move was flagged offside

Janmaat - 6 - Cuts in nicely from the wing
Mbemba - 7 - Good tackles and blocks
Coloccini - 6 - In the shadow of Mbemba and Mbabu
Mbabu - 8 - My NUFC MOTM. Great energy, good tackles, likes to get forward but a little too keen to charge upfield when we lead

Sissoko - 7 - Good shift
Anita - 7 - More go forward this week
Colback - 7 - Subbed before his time after booking
Wijnaldum - 8 - Lovely peeling run for the goal.

Ayoze - 8 - Ace first touch for the goal though Zouma did mess up for that
Mitrović - 6 - Chased a lot but running on empty before sub. Not fit enough to play 'one man up' target man role

Obertan - 5
Toney - N/A

Krul - 7.5 (couldn't have done anything from Rameries shot)

Janmaat - 7.5 thought he was once again one of our better players
Mbemba - 7.5 getting better every week, unsure about the step overs in the middle of the field though....
Coloccini - 7 looked sharp
Mbabu - 8 Mom for me

Sissoko - 5 needs to step his game up
Anita - 7 broke up play and did what was needed
Colback - 6 average
Wijnaldum - 6.5 Average

Ayoze - 8 great work rate and got a goal for his efforts
Mitrović - 8 its safe to say Newcastle looked like a different team with him on the pitch. Hold up play was outstanding but tired towards the end
Obertan - 7.0 had a reasonable impact off the bench
Toney - N/A
de Jong - N/A

McClaren - 7 finally made a call at LB and what a difference that made

Think it was forced on him with Haidara and Dummett out injured.

But Mbabu should definitely keep his place next weekend regardless of if Haidara is fit <ok>
