I agree. Even calling it a city is a joke. Their city centre is a f***ing shopping centre. The whole place is devoid of any character.
I'm the scumbag outlaw. You're the pillar of justice. Neither of us like looking at ourselves in the mirror. Do we have a deal?

It's such an amazingly wild place, it's like being transported back to 5th century mythological England or something. Huge forests and mud bogs, mountains with hurricane force winds battering them. Amazing to think it's in the same country as Milton Keynes or some other innocuous hole.

<laugh> Sorry. But I can't help but hate the place, MK was actually designed to be banal. Middlesbrough is obviously a f***ing sump, but in its defence (can't believe I'm saying that...) it was just a small village that grew into one giant outdoor factory within the space of a few decades and never had any intention of being anything else. Milton Keynes was purposefully designed as a totally characterless, featureless capitulation to the automobile, with featureless buildings designed specifically to provide for featureless people living out their meaningless lives in a Corbusierian utopia of cultural emptiness. People should be angry if they live there; they deserve better. Though I guess its vaguely interesting that it's aligned to the summer solstice, so the sun rises and sets at the east and west ends of the grid system.

So your saying some thought was actually put into designing Milton Keynes?

Cumbernauld is the Scottish MK for anyone that is interested.

I gather it has improved slightly but this is/was the shopping centre.

Jesus. Just nosed around the place on street-view. It looks like a disused German truck stop, like a particularly bad one on the outskirts of Dusseldorf or something. Look at their terraced houses, for christ's sake:

That's so f***ing grim <grim>. I've looked up a few places on Zoopla and Rightmove and some of the blocks of flats wouldn't have looked out of place in the USSR in the 70s. Bleak.

My god I'm going to have nightmares about that Scottish place, how can somewhere like that be allowed to exist in this day age? <puke>

Yeah Milton Keynes is pretty boring too, even the cows are made out of concrete.

I've been to MK a fair few times as well, my dad lived there and my half-siblings still do.

And yes grim place. Even the showcase indoor shopping centre was designed by an architectural fuckwit.

Bleak place.

Didn't seem like anybody had ever lived there. It was just straight roads with business parks on them from what I saw. It just felt a bit like a city from Sim City or Tropico or something where somebody puts way too much thought and effort into neatness and order in town planning and there's no natural sprawl to it.
