Having Dummett take set pieces was bizarre considering he was our best header of the ball at the time. He was our least s*** CB last season as well. Think he's got a huge future there if coached correctly.

No less bizarre than the fact he was awful at taking them <roll>

Not seen anything in him to warrant that. He excels at nothing.

Depends on your opinion I suppose. I think Dummett was our best CB last season (admittedly that is not saying much).

I'm also probably alone, or at least in a very small minority, in thinking that he is a better LB than Haidara, who is utter crap. Although I still think he isn't good enough to be a first team starter in that position. Just back up.

You have to be joking surely <yikes>
Dummett is a very average player at best, would be OK in the Championship as a CB but far too slow as a LB.
Haidara is a young lad who shows promise as long as the opposition stop hacking the poor kid but I would still like to see a new LB purchase with another CB. We have a strong Midfield and I think Wijnaldum will be awesome and maybe Chaz Austin <laugh> up front but I wouldn't worry if we don't sign another forward as Mitrovic is going to be a real handful even for the best defenders ....... UP THE MAGPIES !!!!!

No i'm not joking. I agree Dummett is an average left back and shouldn't be a starting choice in that position. Were we disagree (and apparently I disagree with many others as well) is regarding the rating of Haidara as a left back. In my opinion he is massively overrated on this forum. He is poor defensively and despite claims that he shows promise going forward has delivered next to bugger all in the terms of chances created, assists or goals. Dummett is actually better in that regard as well despite looking less at ease when attacking. And Dummett is better defensively.

I am not claiming that Dummett is a good LB, never have. But he is still better than Haidara.

Yeah I can see where your coming from that's why I said I wish we would sign another LB possibly Lucas Digne from PSG 7m sounds OK to me and he is a lot better than what we have. Then 10m + for a good CB The money we have spent so far 35m was already in the bank from previous seasons so come on big Mike get your f***ing hand in your pocket and show you mean business ......COME ON THE TOON !!!!! <aew>

I thought most people thought Haidara was pretty average?

I get the impression most opinions are split between average and average but with a promising future.

Both of which are overrating him imo.

Although Dummett is better at CB than LB and I think his future should be there I'd have him at LB over Haidara in games where we are going to be on the back foot. Haidara isn't a very good LB. He can't defend for his life. He's ok going forward and Dummett is poor going forward so I'd play Haidara over Dummett against the lesser sides. When we need to defend though Dummett over Haidara is a no brainier.

We probably should have bought an established LB during this transfer window.

We never really found a proper replacement for Enrique.

I get the impression it's not a position we're currently prioritising.
