Chancel Mbemba officially signs for Newcastle Utd

Newcastle United have announced the signing of Anderlecht defender Chancel Mbemba after the club received a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE) for the player at an FA hearing on Thursday (30th July).

The deal is subject to Mbemba receiving the appropriate visa.

Mbemba becomes Newcastle United's third signing of the summer, after completing the switch from Anderlecht. The 20-year-old DR Congo international defender has agreed a five-year deal on Tyneside.

Mbemba is now required to apply for his visa overseas, with the hope that he is then able to return to join his new teammates in Newcastle midweek.

Born in Kinshasa, Mbemba played youth football for a number of local sides in his homeland before joining Belgian giants Anderlecht in 2011.

After rising through the ranks at the Constant Vanden Stock Stadium, he became a first-team regular and played a key role in Anderlecht being crowned Belgian Pro League champions in 2014, as well as lifting back-to-back Belgian Super Cups in 2013 and 2014.

He played in all six of Anderlecht's group stage games in the Champions League last season, scoring both goals in their 2-0 home win over Galatasaray in November 2014.

Speaking of his move, Mbemba said: "I'm very, very happy to be here. This is the biggest league in the world and I'm very proud to wear the shirt for this team and play in this league.

"I'm going to do everything I can to help make the supporters happy, to help out my teammates and to bring something extra to the team.

"I know the team very well. I've watched the Premier League and I know this is a massive team with big players and with a great coach.

"I've come here to Newcastle United because it's a very good move in my career to play for such a famous club. I am excited for the season ahead."

Newcastle United head coach Steve McClaren added: "We are delighted that Chancel is now a Newcastle United player after it took a little longer than we had hoped.

"He is a proven performer at the highest level, he's powerful, combative and will add quality to our defence. He also has an eye for goal which is an extra asset for us.

"We will get him integrated into the squad quickly once he is with us. Unfortunately, due to the time it takes to process the visa application that won't be in time for our final friendly on Saturday, but our focus will be to make sure he will be ready and available as soon as possible.

"I'm sure our supporters will take to him very quickly. He's the sort of player fans will enjoy watching."

Following an agreement between Newcastle United and Anderlecht for the transfer of Chancel Mbemba, the player has been in Newcastle and has agreed personal terms with the Club and undergone his medical.

The documentation in relation to the Club's application for a Governing Body Endorsement (GBE), required in order for Mbemba to obtain a visa, was submitted to the FA on Wednesday morning (22nd July).

Unfortunately, the FA are unable to consider the Club's application until Thursday of next week (30th July). The FA advised the Club they were not able to convene a Panel any sooner.

The Club will provide an update for supporters at the earliest opportunity following the conclusion of the Panel hearing.

Reports from Belgian media claiming it's a done deal with us paying around £7.5m and him signing for 5 years.
Anderlecht pocketed 10 million net.

Mitrovic is not alone in moving to Newcastle. From reliable sources, we learned that the transfer of Chancel Mbemba to the Magpies was finalized on Sunday. Mbemba pass his medical tests earlier this week, and then the transfer will be formalized.

Mbemba signs a 5 year contract and will affect a very nice salary. Anderlecht pocketed 10 million net. The amount paid is greater than Newcastle, seen intermediaries (clubs and agents) who are entitled to a percentage.

Newcastle had already expressed interest in the Congo in January, but Besnik Hasi wanted to keep him for the title. Finally, things have accelerated that last Friday, during the negotiations between Newcastle and Anderlecht Mitrovic. Since no club (Wolfsburg, Mönchengladbach, Atletico Madrid) would pay 10 million net, Sporting proposed defender in Newcastle. The club, looking for a strong central defender, did not hesitate.

Sunday, Mbemba was Vanden Stock stadium to witness the 3-1 against Lazio. He posed for pictures with fans but obviously had some head in the Premier League.

Supposedly he is quick, has one hell of a leap, is powerful and is also very good at football. Basically the complete opposite of Williamson. Sounds good to me!

Can also play RB and DM,he's the bloke who scored 2 goals away at Galatasaray in the champions league.

Just need Matip or another big center back and our starting 11 back 4 is solid.

If we get him I still think we need a left back over another centre half, but all three would be nice...

Apparently he had bone scans which verified his age <ok>

To be honest, if he's as good as he's supposed to be, even if he's 27 then it's still a good deal.

To clarify: apparently that's how Anderlecht verified he was born in 1994.

I don't think bone scans can determine your age that accurately. You can MRI scan the wrist to see if the growth plates are fully fused or not and if they are then they are almost certainly going to be over 17/18 years old. But don't see how you could get a year or anything out it. Maybe he had one and his growth plates were not fully fused or something so they just know he was not born in 1988 rather than he was born in 1994.
