Interesting observation, but no, I wasn't. I mean he was a fantastic player, now is a good manager and I always respected West Ham, but come on, Joey Barton played for you. Enjoyed watching him in black and white <awe>

When I was a kid, I supported Arsenal fan(gloryhunter is the word), they were my '' foreign team'', but I couldn't stand that French granny called Arse(ne) <laugh>

How's the situation with gloryhunters in Newcastle ?

The mid 90s under Keegan probably made us a few extra fans, but other than that, there isn't much glory to hunt in these parts <laugh>.

I was thinking on Barca, Real,... fans in Newcastle.
A day ago I read there is more Barca shirts sold in Scotland than of Celtic and Rangers combined.

Ah I see! It's largely Newcastle, but there are plenty of Man Utd and Liverpool fans up here. It doesn't bother me, but the ones who constantly slate Newcastle can get a bit tiresome. You tend to see more children wearing Chelsea and Man City shirts as gloryhunting as an adult isn't socially acceptable <laugh>. People wearing shirts of other European clubs tend to just be admirers rather than fans.

I'm also a student coming on an exchange to Newcastle in September. When choosing my exchange destination the local football club played a big part of a desicion. I didn't want to go to Manchester nor London, but to come to a real football city. I'd like to watch couple of games, but don't know where to buy tickets.
Btw, my favourite football club is Hajduk Split.
Welcome to the forum!

Slovenia is such a beautiful country btw <awe>

Do you have a favorite club in Slovenia as well? I only know NK Maribor and Olimpija Ljubljana (and Lasko Celje in handball <laugh> ).

Yes it is. The more I travel around the world, the more I see the beauty of Slovenia :) So, you've been to Slovenia ?

I support my local team, Krka Novo mesto. This year it was our second consecutive season in the first league. We finished 8th out of 10 teams. It's a small local club, with around 500 people in the stands more or less.

Nice one mate. <gent>

I'm not from Newcastle, I started supporting NUFC when I studied abroad in Newcastle myself. You won't regret, forget football altogether and enjoy Newcastle for all the other things there, it's a great place to be man for so many other reasons as well, enjoy it. That being said you should still get down to St. James' as often as possible to witness 2-1 losses to West Brom, some players sent off and maybe even a punched horse, you never know!

I've been to Slovenia, but only for one day. On a trip to Croatia with my class from school we stopped to visit the Postojna caves.

Someday I want to spend holidays in Slovenia and see more of the country. :)

Hi Vuk!

I agree about Slovenia. Only visited Bled, but I'd like to see more of the country. Was actually considering doing a CELTA course in Ljubljana this summer but wasn't able to.

You'll be able to buy tickets from the ground or online nearer to the time, I really hope you go to a few games, hopefully we start winning a bit more!

Hi Vuk

Welcome to the forum! Haven't been to Slovenia but have heard it is beautiful. Have been to Split though, although didn't get to see your team. Lovely city though. Diocletian's Palace. Not many cities have a building as wonderful as that on their sea front.

Hi! Hope you had a great time. Well, this time next year Del boy said :)
Thank you. Hope so, because right now it doesn't look very promising. McClaren ?!? But what's done is done <worried>

Hi! Right now I'm on vacation in Split. Just can't get used to. It's my dream city.
Hajduk is a great club, with a fantastic history and fans all around the world. We used to play a big role in european football back in time. But now..

Hey all!

Dutchie here. PSV supporter, not the biggest fan of English football (kinda dislike the money spending City and Chelsea teams) but follower and 'supporter' of NUFC since our teams met in Europe a decade or more ago. Even traded 2 shirts with yours (with glorious Pistone on the back of one).

Decided to register with your upcoming signing of Wijnaldum.Believe me:he's top class and immediately the best midfielder (or at least the cleverest) in the squad. Truly sorry to see him go since he is a very friendly guy too, always a smile.

Welcome <diva>

Apologies for Wijnaldum, but at least he's joining us rather than anyone else, right? <roll>

Where would you say he'll best fit into our first XI, position wise? I'll have to admit I'm a bit ignorant really!
