Do you even know what PR is?Star-Lord Mehdi wrote:Further on from what I said earlier.. The interviewer.. David Craig.. His PR guy is also Bishop.
It's public relations. This means that anything related to the organisation of interviews and media coverage falls under PR.
PR does not just mean that there's someone behind the scenes carefully orchestrating exactly what Ashley says like they're trying to brainwash us. To organise interviews and things of that nature, there's always going to be a PR manager involved as that's their job. I don't know why you think it's some kind of conspiracy.
And besides, if Ashley did do the interview with a tactically worded script from a PR guy, then the PR guy has done a s*** job as the interview just set expectations even higher and set Ashley further up for a fall if he fails to stick to what he's said.
The simple fact is that Ashley's life probably would have been easier if he had just not done that interview at all, so it's more than likely for the fans benefit instead of his own. He didn't really have to say any of that and risk opening a whole new can of worms, but he did.

Well that's in the Chronicle, where it also says 'people inside the club' persuaded him to talk. Whether that refers to Bishop or somebody else I'm not sure. But Mark Douglas also tweeted that the NUFC PR/Comms people (presumably referring to Anthony & Lee Marshall & Dan King, and possibly Wendy Taylor) didn't know.MultipleJesuses wrote:Still no source though?Star-Lord Mehdi wrote:Further on from what I said earlier.. Funny hearing Ashley speak. Was very shaky and clearly not a wordsmith. Came across as in it for the long haul. Bear in mind the interview on Sky was before the game.
I hope to hell this sleepwalking into the abyss of losing him money ( as he would not want to f*** up his investment) has given him a shake.
In hindsight, looks like he thought Carver a safe pair of hands and that his wheeler dealer player policy ( buy cheap and sell on) very naive. Anything we've had in recent years has been borrowed or sold. Hoping cheapies turn into gold nuggets simply risky.

The interview was conducted by David Craig. David Craig's agent in Keith Bishop. Keith Bishop is essentially Ashley's right hand man when it comes to doing PR. The questions were obviously agreed before hand. Call me a pessimist, but the interview just sounded very rehearsed to me. My guess for the interview? I think he was worried about season ticket renewals, as perhaps there's been a lot of cancellations.
Re: Ashley: I Want To Bring Success Back To United
It seemed pretty nervy and disjointed for a pre-rehearsed interview.

Re: Ashley: I Want To Bring Success Back To United
Even if his PR guy recommended he do it, or signed off on it, that doesn't necessarily make it any less real. Could simply mean his PR guy told him that if he felt that way about the club, then it would be a good idea to say it publicly. Could mean his PR guy told him it was about damn time he communicate directly with the fans and media, and that's what he said when he did it. I don't really care about getting a source from the other poster, because I'm sure Bishop had a say in it, but no matter what it won't shed any light on whether it was honest or not.
Besides, the intentions are less my concern now, it's that he hires the right people to do a good job managing and investing in the club and players.

Each to their own but I'll stick to my opinion that it wasn't staged.

Just for clarity sake, I didn't mean by my above post that I think it was "staged", or that there was anything untoward about it. I appreciated him finally speaking publicly, and thought it came off rather genuine. I only mean that I'm sure the PR guy knew at some point he was going to do it, since it's probably his job to know about those things, and if I find out he did sign off on it, it wouldn't change the fact I liked what he said.

It wasn't all rehearsed. You're just one of those tin foil hat conspiracy theorists with a low IQ who believes that there must be some sort of conspiracy in EVERYTHING Ashley or the club does.Star-Lord Mehdi wrote:Goat wrote:

I can't grasp how you can just completely reject that it is a possibility, particularly after everything he has done.Goat wrote: It wasn't all rehearsed. What does "rehearsed" even mean? Did Ashley and the interviewer go through some practice interviews first or something?505 wrote:I can't grasp how you can just completely reject that it is a possibility, particularly after everything he has done.Goat wrote: It wasn't all rehearsed. Even if they prepared the questions in advance, what difference does it make? Ashley wanted to get a message out to the public so he was asked the right questions to do that. I'm sure he had no intention of being openly grilled by a journo when he just wanted to get some points over to the fans.
And maybe Ashley did know the questions in advance, and therefore prepared what he was going to say in his head, but again, so what? People who do speeches in front of people always prepare notes for their speeches in advance. It's no different.
I don't get this "rehearsed" nonsense. Whether Ashley pre-planned his answers or answered off the top of his head, they're still based on the exact same thoughts and viewpoints Ashley has.
