Who should replace Cardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?

Re: Who should replace Pardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
What's with all the huffing and puffing surrounding McClaren? Too many of our clueless fans want a foreign manager for the sake of having a foreign manager. Remi Garde? What the f*** has he ever done in his managerial career? McClaren won a cup with Boro, got them to a UEFA Cup Final and managed to win the Eredivisie in a league dominated by Ajax, Feyenoord and PSV. If he was foreign he'd be lauded a bloody genius! But no, he's English so must be s*** and "not good enough" for Newcastle. Load of bollocks I reckon.
Also, please don't bring up his England career. It's a poisoned chalice, nobody ever does well for England.

Whilst I agree he gets a harsh time over his England performance, and deserves more credit, I think Derby's capitulation this season has a lot of people fearing what he might do with us.505 wrote:What's with all the huffing and puffing surrounding McClaren? Think McLaren would do pretty well with us. He can't seem to manage teams with big egos (Wolfsburg, England) but we tend to get rid of the cronuts so I'd be somewhat optimistic with him, provided we farm out Carver and the others.

He's overachieved with Derby as it is. They were starring down the barrel of relegation to League One before he came in and even managed a play-off final!Pull the Arfa One wrote: Whilst I agree he gets a harsh time over his England performance, and deserves more credit, I think Derby's capitulation this season has a lot of people fearing what he might do with us.
Re: Who should replace Pardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
Indeed. They've dropped off in a highly competitive top six largely down to Chris Martin's injury, I think it's harsh to call that a capitulation if you look at the strength of some of the other squads.505 wrote:He's overachieved with Derby as it is. Re: Who should replace Pardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
I want a young, progressive, tactically astute modern manager, not a rehash of dated kick and rush hoofball. I'd prefer it if that manager was English, but unfortunately not too many English candidates fit that profile.505 wrote:Too many of our clueless fans want a foreign manager for the sake of having a foreign manager. At some point every great manager has done nothing in their career, the only chance we'll ever have of getting a great manager is by gambling on someone at an early stage in their career, because once they've done something and proven themselves they aren't going to want to manage us.
Alternatively I'm just a clueless moron who's dazzled by a foreign name <wenger>
Re: Who should replace Pardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
The reason I want a foreign manager is because I want someone suited to the continental style and the bulk of foreign players we have.505 wrote:What's with all the huffing and puffing surrounding McClaren? He did very well at Twente, but he absolutely tanked at Wolfsburg, tanked at Nottingham, underperformed back at Twente and has 1 win from his last 6 games with Derby (although they were admittedly doing well up until this point).
His pros and cons even themselves out, so I certainly wouldn't laud him a genius if he was foreign.
I won't mind a great deal if we do get McClaren, but I would personally prefer a younger foreign manager better suited to a style I want to see our team play which also suits them.

I'm sure that to outsiders Pardew overachieved with us, and our decline was solely down to the loss of a key player.Colly wrote:Indeed. Re: Who should replace Pardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
Derby went from lower reaches to playoffs last season and have been consistently around the top all season, I can't see how that's remotely comparable. Derby haven't given up post Carroll/Cabaye/whoever you're referring to, they're still in the playoffs and second is still vaguely possible.Pull the Arfa One wrote:I'm sure that to outsiders Pardew overachieved with us, and our decline was solely down to the loss of a key player.Colly wrote:

Johnny's quotes from Express about his 40-minute lecture after the derby.
John "The Bad Ass" Carver <carvs> And if you read those comments when you just wake up from coma, you'll say that this was our first loss. It’s the first time I’ve had to be Mr Nasty since I took charge because of how we lost the game last weekend.
We’ve responded in the past and the players owe it to themselves to do it again.
We won at Old Trafford last season for the first time since 1972. So, Theatre of Dreams, Anfield – two Meccas of football – and it can be done.
Re: Who should replace Cardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
I voted Tuchel before, but he off to Hamburg so I'd say Steve McClaren looks more than likely

I'd love a Eddie Howe or even a Garry Monk though

I'm not sure the club appointed Carver because other people weren't available. I genuinely think Ashley thought Carver would copy Pards and do the average run of the mill job expected of him; EPL safety. Where I think the wheel came off the plan was our inability to score without Cisse. Without the lad, we look like a one legged man in an arse kicking contest.
Lucky for us is our slight points cushion. It allows Carver to look ghastly whilst we are in free fall, thereby sealing his fate.

Re: Who should replace Pardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
This, as a country our football is riddled with old men who are practically out of touch from the modern game, we have seen the same English managers for years and its very rare someone will rise up and actually do something. The whole mindset is set back years compared to the rest of Europe, I'd imagine most of them would have a heart attack at the mere mention of playing something that breaks the English spirit of 66 mould.Beatski wrote:I want a young, progressive, tactically astute modern manager, not a rehash of dated kick and rush hoofball. I want someone who has a philosophical outlook on tactics, and is forward thinking, and unfortunately for English football managers that isn't really ingrained in them yet, so you have to look at foreign coaches if you want something progressive.

How about Steve Harmison? Currently on an eight game winning run since taking over at Ashington AFC! He'd be a cheap option for Ashley and Carver has already been quoted as saying he'd be welcome at st James to talk tactics.
Re: Who should replace Cardew as Newcastle Utd head coach?
A manager from the 9th level of english football is nowhere near ready to manage a premier league club yet.soundguy wrote:How about Steve Harmison?
