Each to their own though, bet or no bet we all obviously want Newcastle to win and no amount of backing the opposition team (Sunderland or not) will change that. I had Man City to beat us starting with a -2 goal handicap at the start of the season and won £80.

Needless to say I'd have been overjoyed if we came away from there with even a point, but did I think for a second when the winnings came in to my account I was being disloyal for betting against us? Did I ****, that was the next two weeks food shopping covered

I think he was suggesting that his winnings would be large enough to cover the food bill, not that he actually needs the winnings to pay the bill. But maybe you're only kidding anyway

Before Sunderland won yesterday, they were around 4/1 on. I stuck 25 quid on it.

If we win I don't mind if I lose 25 quid, but if we lose that's 100 quid to make me feel better.

I've done it in the 0-3 last season and won 160+ quid....

Shola hasn't scored in a derby in years. Shola in general has hardly scored in years. His record against them is what I would expect of any decent striker who's played that many matches against one team, and he only gets so much acclaim for it because he's scored so few against the rest of the league in his career. I'm bored of this urban legend about him.

He hasn't started the last two, the one before he was subbed off first half because we were 1-0 up and Tiote got sent off. He scored against them the season before last, the season before he scored two and got an assist, the season before we were in the Championship, but the season before that he scored in both matches. It's not an urban legend at all, only Jackie Milburn has scored more goals for us in the Derby.
