It took us like a month to put a second bid in after our first was rejected <neg>

At this rate we'll have signed him by 2014 <whistle>

Why can't we just pay a reasonable f***ing fee for him <wah>
Like a seahorse in the night, he rides with haste to his beloved's domain.

He is the silent guardian, the practical idealist, the man of peace prepared for war.

He is a Mackem.

Was just about to correct you. For anybody who can't read the French, here it is:

Debuchy: Seydoux shuts the Door
Though the player desired this summer to leave Lille, Mathieu Debuchy could stay for one more year. The offer of Newcastle (6 million) has not met the president Seydoux's asking price, who reacted strongly.
Mathieu Debuchy wanted to join Newcastle and his friend Yohan Cabaye.

Michel Seydoux was quick to react to the proposal of 6 million euros, together with a percentage for resale, made by Newcastle for Mathieu Debuchy, information published in the columns of L'Equipe on Thursday. "I decided that Mathieu Debuchy remain LOSC," announced the President of Lille. "The offer from Newcastle is definitely not at the value of the player. As we have significant challenges in August (including the qualifier of the Champions League), stop procrastinating. (my favourite part <laugh>) For Mathieu Debuchy to leave, it would have taken the offer to be consistent and commensurate with its replacement. As the conditions (a start) are not met, it is my duty to make a decision. "

In early July, the Magpies had offered 5 million euros for the right side Lille player (27 years, under contract until 2015), who had announced before resuming training, his intention to leave his club.

Well Anita can play LB, RB and DM/CM, so I guess he might play. Sounds like a higher-class Perch to me...

Why change our transfer policy which clearly worked last season for one player? Especially one that will have a much lower value once he leaves?

Not going to happen. He has made his decision to keep him, I don't think he'll change his mind now.

The extra few million would have kept Cabaye happier too <scratch>. Shame we didn't do it.

I reckon he's playing hardball, he doesn't want us to take his best players two years running.

The problem is, our transfer policy can only take us so far. Eventually we have to just suck it up and pay an extra million pounds to secure a player.
